Thanks for your video... I have the same intake and it makes it really easy to adjust roller rockers... what does your mustang run?
@Xarmy18712 жыл бұрын
@superslo5oh thanks. The hole priming the lifters thing is another part that is up to debate. Most modern engine builders say pumping the lifters with oil is old school stuff, and modern lifters have enough pressure with the internal spring to pump themselves up. so while it may not be necessary, its also not a big issue ether way.
@seapeddler12 жыл бұрын
Pedestal rockers need to be adjusted with the engine hot. Since the valvetrain parts are now expanded, the adjustment you set will be in the sweet spot for hydraulic damping. Lifters that are given excess preload can be damaged internally and will clatter when cold. If the rocker slides slightly across the pedestal, you've got it right. Honing the shim on a true fine whetstone will bring the lash within desired range. Vacuum guage will tell you when things are too tight.

I love your vids and it looks like your doing the same swap as me soon on your 5.0... M112!! But this video has explained to me very clearly why your rockers are "chattering" Preload them 1/2 turn instead of 1/8 and you'll be golden. You want the lifters preloaded in the middle of their travel in order to be properly preloaded after warmed up and oil pressure is present. This usually takes 10 mins on the stand during assembly and no need to re-adjust after several thousand miles.

I thought you would be a good person to ask. I just got a set of 1.7 rollors, and matching crane pushrods. They are not the stud mounted style, they bolt down like the stock ones. They are supposed to drop on a stock e7 head. My question is, is there any mod for this install? They are my first set. Any suggestions on the install of this style of rollor? Thanks

ford letter cams are not garbage, they make good power. i got a flat tappet 498/498 lift cam which is the same as a e303. i got tf 170 heads and a 670 carb and my car runs 12.20s @110 with 1.75-80 60fts and i got 3.73 gears also.the power my car makes will blow the tires off. and im talking 275/50/15 drag radials.when the letter cams came out back in the 90s they were awsome.people talk a bunch of smack about them but they get the job done with the mild builds that most people do.

Hoping your still around @XArmy187 im working on a 5L 304 in Australia and this vid was a big help. Just wanted to know how much of a difference does it make doing a 3/8 turn compared to a half or full turn.
@Xarmy1875 жыл бұрын
It's basically the same I would say if it's an old stock heads or old heads do a full turn if it's a pair of new heads valves everything you get away with you know anything else But also if you hear any weird noises tightness you can also feel the engine feel a little funny from the valves are a little too tight I honestly obsessed about valves and I adjusted them every 500 Miles or so when it wasn't needed I'm still here there's going to be a new video soon but no more Fox body
@PetesBuilds4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate I'm doing a 304 also, just fitting crane rockers. Did you do it the same way as was shown in the video? How did it go for you? I've been told that a full turn is the way to go. Did you make the preload turn after feeling only a slight resistance on the push rod as was explained? I've seen people say you need to start the preload turn once you can no longer twist the push rod at all...

I would first look at the instructions, as all brands can be different. some are as simple as bolting down, and torquing to 20-25ft lb's of torque, and some require shim's and measuring them on the valve tip, and making sure they clear the valve spring. they are easier to set up, but you have to be sure the proper way to install, which I would go off of the manufactures instructions.

Snapped a stock AFR Rocker Arm Stud off on my head last week. Finally getting into fixing this weekend. Well, Monday now and I need to bust ass and get it running before tomorrow. Not expecting a quick reply, but how tight are your rockers when you do the last 1/4 or 1/2 turn? I feel like mine are WAY too tight. However, when I started the car there was a shit ton of chattering going on. Only the Passenger side head has the new ARP studs in so far. Tips?

I just had a 331 built .. Motor has a few hundred miles on it... Rockers chattering... how often am I gonna have to adjust these damn things!?
@Xarmy1875 жыл бұрын
With an aggressive cam I was adjusting mine every 500 miles or so That being said I'm super OCD and I thought I was fixing the issue what really is you just got to get used to the chattering as long as you know you set it right you drive it for a few hundred miles you check it without doing anything and it's not out of spec where it's supposed to be it'll be fine you just got to learn to live with the extra noise
@phantomj79215 жыл бұрын
Whoa... So Id had better get tons of intake gasket sets for my Ford Explorer Upper! That's nuts! 500 miles! Whats the other alternative? Cause Im not going to be taking apart half the motor every 500 miles! @@Xarmy187
@Xarmy1875 жыл бұрын
@@phantomj7921 like I said I was over doing it. You adjust them. Check your work in a few hundred miles and as long as they are still measuring out good, then leave it be.
@phantomj79215 жыл бұрын
Ohh man! This is insane... How come the stock rockers never needed adjusted? Maybe I'll just put a stock rocker back on the car? @@Xarmy187
@Xarmy1875 жыл бұрын
@@phantomj7921 well they wernt adjustable and just stay at what they are machined too. Plus with an aggressive cam, the cam literally beats the crap out of the lifters, pushrods, rollerrockers, valves ETC Just how it is. You can get non-adjustable rockers that are more aggressive. If you look on summitracing there are a bunch of options But they will not make as much power, and will bog the motor compared to a roller rocker at high RPMS

Your first mistake is calling it a motor. A motor is a device driven by electricity, air or hydraulic pressure. An engine uses or consumes fuel to convert into mechanical operation. Common mistake from noobies. Your second mistake is playing death metal at 3 am. Unless you are a vampire lol!
@Xarmy18712 жыл бұрын
if there too tight, the car could run like complete shit, if there too loose, they will chatter. if you do it like I did in the video, even with more preload, even a full turn, you will be fine. I use to do mine two or three times too, second guessing myself, haha, so I know how it is.
