One of the best tips i know of is never to adjust your aim while you are down for a shot. If you need to adjust, always stand back up and approach the shot all over again. You covered this in the main, but this version is gr8 for beginners and to discipline your process!

This is easily one of the best videos on aiming I've seen. I don't consider myself a beginner anymore, but I've seen nearly every video on "aiming"/shotmaking on youtube. The premise and execution of this video is clear and better defined than the others. When someone asks "how do you aim?" I'll send them this first. So much good stuff in here that took me a while to find out the hard way.

I started playing 55 years ago, I learned that it's easier to learn from watching other players an improving your knowledge of the game than just hitting balls without studying the mechanics and fundamentals of pool. Everyone needs sometime alone on the table to work on their weaknesses, improvement always follows examination and review. Great video.

Outstanding video! Having enjoyed pool and golf for decades there is one fundamental truth in both sports. A pre-shot routine is mandatory for any chance of accuracy and consistency. I haven't picked up a cue for several years but I'm getting back into the game. Thanks for all the great info!

My progress was slow many years ago as a kid in the pool hall because I didn't know how to practice. I would do just what he said. Mistake #1: Throw the balls on the table and start shooting them in. Better to shoot one shot ten times than ten shots once. Mistake #2: I would shoot a missed shot over until I made it....once. Shoot a missed shot until you make it 5 times in a row. Mistake #3: Aim once I got down over the ball. Often my feet were in the wrong place. Get your cue stick on line and move your body to it, not the other way around. Mistake #4: I was more concerned with having a good bridge than a good stroke. Stroke is 100 times more important than your bridge. (make that 1000) Unfortunately, I didn't learn that I was doing it all wrong until I was in my 50s. Now I am trying to outrun father time relearning things correctly. It is difficult to unlearn bad habits.

Holy crap. I’ve been playing for more than 40 years. For about a 15 year period, I was pretty good. I haven’t played regularly for the last 10 years or so. When I do go, every shot now seems so difficult. I miss so many previously easy shots. Through this video, I’m learning I’ve been aiming wrong. During the window when I was good, it was all feel and I was on autopilot. Now that the feel is gone, I have to line everything up, BUT I’VE BEEN LINING UP MY AIM WRONG. It’s not easy admitting that after 40 years, but I guess that’s half the battle.

As a PBIA certified instructor, BRAVO!!!!! Best explanation on the internet I have seen. I will Say this however, which is take a look at Auto Aim (aiming system created by Randy Goettlicher). if you ask me Jr’s more of an alignment system than an aiming system technically speaking (in my opinion), but If we are being real aligning perfectly on a shot IS AIMING. It cuts out many of the steps involved you have on this video, and as we all know… the less steps needed the better when it comes to this sport.

KISS❤️ Great job on simplifying the basics of learning how to aim. I didn’t see any mention of quality of stroke but maybe that is too advanced for the purpose of this video. Smooth acceleration of the tip through the contact point on the cue ball affects both pocketing and position. When I was watching Jason’s early attempts at breaking the world 14.1 record, most of the shots he may missed were caused by de-acceleration while attempting to hold the cue ball.

Just an awesome video. I in the beginning sought lessons. I heard hit a million balls!! Yes, I soon found hitting them wrong just magnifies the problem. Not knowing what to do I ordered Stan Schuffets Pro One cd. So I immediately got better fast. Then I hit the plateau and needed help. Stan is very gracious to help but he is out of State. Tyler Styer was at a tournament in Sacramento. I heard we have the same coach Stan. I was amazed we spent 5 hours together. It brought me up another 25%. Yet, he was gone and I was still needing that help. I still need help. lol This video helped me seeing the 30 line. Pro one has preceptions that place you on the contact spot. Yet if you have the wrong perception your shot is off. I wanted to thank you for again this video, along with what I am training with will be another huge training device for my pursuit of playing some really great pool. Well done!

Years ago when I played in leagues and tournaments I found this booklet written by Willie Moscone in the 1950's. I was suffering from inconsistencies. I basically tore down everything I knew and followed the books advice. It took a year to "unlearn" my bad habits but I was averaging 2 more balls pocketed per round after.

I just saw this video again, my pool game has improved even though, I only play once a week or every other week. The process sounds good & giving small bites at a time to chew on. The brain can handle the info better for long time memory. I recall after working in Precision sheetmetal for over 2 yrs, I could visualize 3 thousandths of an inch!! Good training video.
