Plugging your harp into an amp doesn't have to be complicated or super expensive! You'll need a pickup, a preamp, an amp, and two cables and you're all set! Here's what I use:
Pickup - Fishman SBT-HP Soundboard Transducer for Harp & Piano on Amazon: amzn.to/3fXvDqE
Preamp - Caline Preamp on Amazon: amzn.to/3off78i
Amp - Fender Acoustasonic 15 on Amazon: amzn.to/2JEkkYp
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. That means that if you buy something from the above Amazon link, I might get a small share of the sale :) Thank you!

I’m thinking of getting one of these to use on grand piano for live sound, thanks for the demo. Just to clarify a few things from questions I saw on here- you need a preamp with this pickup, or an amp built to take piezo pickups at the input so that the impedance is correct, otherwise you lose a lot of low end in your sound and it gets really scratchy. The pedal you have does that. Also, the xlr jack on your preamp pedal is an output, not a mic input. The xlr jack on your amp is an input. You’re not using a mic anyway, but just to clarify for anyone else reading. Great demo though, and you sound great on the harp.

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't know that about the xlr jack! 😊

Hello Molly. I would love to hear the amplifier sound isolated, so that the recording is only picking up the sound of the pickup, instead of hearing the harp acoustically bleeding into the phone mic. This would provide sonic proof of how well the Fishman pickup reproduces the whole frequency range of the harp from low notes to high notes. Thank you in any case for the demonstration!

Hi Molly! I purchased the items listed above but can’t figure out what cord to use to: 1.) attach between the fender amp and the pickup I’ve placed in the harp (the one you recommend in the link) 2.) what cord do I use to attach between the pre-amp and the fender amp? And 3) how to connect my joyo vintage overdrive pedal to all of it (what cord do I need)? I’m totally new to adding an amp and pedals and would greatly appreciate any guidance with the 3 needed cords mentioned above, otherwise I won’t be able to get any of it to work. Thank you for your videos and your positivity!

Curious. I have a similar harp and i see a predrilled hole on the left side of your harp with the factory plug to cover it... was wondering why you opted to not use that for your jack?

What type of cables do you use or recommend for a fullsicle with the harpsicle pick up? Their pickups have a preamp built in.

Hi Molly Living in a noisy tropical country, I thought it would be best to buy the K&k Big Twin. However, it seems I cannot record by simply plugging it in the computer. Do I need a mixer or pre-amp?

Thanks so much for this video Molly! Super useful. I already have an amp, preamp, and dusty strings pickup. What I'm unsure of is how to connect this to a phone/camera for video recording? Or to my laptop to use with recording software? Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thank you :)

Good question! The only experience I have with this is using a PreSonus Audiobox to record my guitar with my laptop - that does make it pretty simple, but there's probably apps or cheaper ways to do it. It would definitely work with an amplified harp if you wanted to go that direction, though!

is there any danger of damage to the soundboard by sticking the transducer on there? aka if i need to take the sticky off, risk of cracking?
@MusicalMollyKhan

I don't believe so! They are designed specifically to stick to soundboards so I imagine that was taken into consideration. But I can't say for sure unfortunately!

Hi Molly. I just received my new Grand Harpsicle and looking to buy an amp. Would you recommend the amp you have for playing in a small venue or maybe church? I am not ready to invest $500+ in an amp. Are you using your Fender Acoustasonic 15 with the Grand when you make KZfaq videos? Thanks for your informative and entertaining videos!
@MusicalMollyKhan
@MusicalMollyKhan 4 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the size of the venue or church. For a small group ensemble to a smaller church, it would absolutely work for you. If you're in a very large venue or competing with guitars with powerful amps, it probably won't be quite enough. In my videos, I always just record acoustically unless I specifically say I'm using an amp. I think this and my lyre review video are the only ones so far :)

@@MusicalMollyKhan Thank you, Molly! I was told the louder voice of the Grand would distort the smaller amps. Apparently that's not your case as long as you are playing at home or in small venues.

Hi thanks a lot for your video, can i ask you a couple of things please ? Would you recommend an active pick up without a preamp or a passive pick up with a preamp ? Do you know any active pick up to suggest me ? Do you know the SCHATTEN CH-1 CELTIC HARP PICKUP ? i've read that it's not bad. Your pick us is the Fishman SBT-HAP ? Thanks again, i hope you can help me.
@MusicalMollyKhan
@MusicalMollyKhan 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I like my Fishman that I use in the video (passive with a preamp) it sounds nice. My Grand Harpsicle has an active pickup that also sounds great, I'm not sure of the brand on that one. Active pickups are a little annoying having to charge them or change a battery, but it's certainly not a big deal. I don't have any experience with that pickup unfortunately.

Is it necessary to use a pre-amp? Can you just plug into the amp?
@MusicalMollyKhan
@MusicalMollyKhan 2 жыл бұрын
It's not totally necessary, but a pre amp allows your amp to put out more sound. Without it, your harp may not be much louder than it is unamplified, but I can't say for sure.

Also i`ve heard from a local music shop if u have a pickup installed in your instrument and if its passive or active makes a difference. If it is an active one,it has its own powersource when plugging it in,and u may not need a preamp,just plug it directly in the amp. If its passive,it may need a preamp since it has no powersource,so the preamp helps there before plugging it in the amp.
