In this video, I am showing how to analyze a chess game with a computer and learn from mistakes. This is a really important skill for beginners, intermediate players, and advanced players as well. We take the game in 3 phases: opening, middlegame, and endgame, as well as practicality of computer suggestions and time management.

This is why when you analyze you should only care about the moves you could've found yourself but missed. For example: if the engine tells me I missed a mate in 12, I don't care, because I don't think it is reasonable to expect me to find it. But if I missed a 4 move tactic that wins a piece, I practice more tactics. If I missed a win in the endgame, I practice endgames.

@@ameralhamvi5680 I'm guessing the trick there is many of those misses are actually the same exact mistake? I and an opponent left mate in 1-2 hanging on each other for a long time, running me 15 blunders with my win. I won't mention it happened during a daily game to save face.

For chess improvement, I would recommend hanging pawns. His channel allowed me to go from 1600 to 2000 in two weeks. He has playlists on openings, middlegame ideas, and an awesome playlist on endgames.

As a 1200, what I'm learning from this for my slow games is to evaluate if a capture needs to happen immediately or if I can take my time. Also, to evaluate how active my pieces are vs my opponent's pieces. Also also, some engine moves are just never going to occur to anyone naturally rotfl

It really helps take some of sting out of the admonishing "MISTAKE" messages I get during analysis, even when I know I'm doing the best that I can, especially for my elo. Signs that you’re bad and don’t know it: 1- you don’t analyze your games 2- you only analyze the games you WIN 3- when the engine says that you blundered many times you think that its ONLY because engines “ see crazy lines that noone understands “ and thinks that your game style is more “ psychological “

@@AfterthoughtTV that's not true lol, if your opponent messes up it isn't hard. I'm 1300 and I've had >99 accuracy if my opponent blunders early. Of course, as you get higher, your opponent is better, but so are you- if you know opening theory and your opponent blunders the knight, as razorlike's opponent did, then it is by no means impossible to get 99.5 accuracy without using any computer at all.

@@AfterthoughtTV thats not how it works, if the opponent makes a ton of blunders then 99 percent accuracy isnt cheating, but if the opponent played at an 80 percent accuracy then its likely cheating

Hey levy, after watching your video on the londom system analysis, I was able to understand the strength of c3 d4 e5 pawn chain along with overwhelming attack of h4 pawn when the center is locked. Thanks man for the detailed analysis. Lovely content!

I like to copy the PGN into ChessX (with StockFish) and change the analysis settings to Search Depth 6 with 20-30 lines depending on computer performance. I think this is closer to helping analyze what a good human would do - I can probably visualize a 6 move exchange with some effort, but the default time based settings go much deeper than I can in game. I'd be curious what you think about this as a way to mitigate the goofy parts of analysis! (mid-level player ~1500ish btw, if that affects your answer) Great video @GothamChess! One of my favorites from your great content! Love the passion about how silly computer analysis can be.

The funny thing is I’ll have 95 score games with multiple blunders and missed wins by virtue of the fact that I made only the easy, natural moves in an endgame that lasted an eternity.
