HOW TO ANIMATE AN IMAGE IN RESOLVE 17 - DaVinci Resolve Basics Tutorial

In this fancy tutorial we look at how to animate an image in resolve 17! As always, there are a bunch of different ways to go about animating an image in resolve, but these are some of my favorite ways to do it! Best part is that most of it can be done right from the Edit Page, so no hassling with Fusion (if that's your thing).

Thank you for the keyframing lesson. I was struggling for an hour with dynamic zoom not doing what I wanted, and they keyframing worked perfectly!

I think I'm starting to watch a good amount of your videos, bc as you walked through this, I was saying "I think he'll turn on dynamic zoom", and then "bet it's time for keyframes". It's working, Casey -- these tutorials are really sticking with me. 😊

Thanks, this is really helpful. If you can, please help me with one question. When I do a transition with key framing, it only allows me to start at the very beginning of the clip and end the transition at the very end. Is there a way to set these starting and ending points elsewhere within a clip?

Casey, I have a question on the preparation of the still image to import. What size should it be, so that once I've zoomed in, the resolution is still correct (I tend to stick with 1080p but I'm sure others would like to know for 4K). I haven't found the answer on the InterWeb but have come across suggestions that DR has a 16K limit for stills, and another that one of the pages (edit page?) will scale an imported image immediately (unless overridden) so negating me importing a larger image deliberately for the Ken Burns zoom. Can you help please ? Thanks, Stuart

i have a poster I did in affinity photo that I want to animate in resolve - but when I go to the fusion page the poster is super tiny and I don't know how to resize it like I can do in the edit page. I've tried the resize node but that changes the canvas and not the image. Any ideas? I've exported it as a jpeg not sure if that's the issue

Make sure the poster is pretty big, like at least 1920 wide. I’d start with a background node and merge the poster over it. Then use a transform node between the poster and the merge to move it around.
