LMAO!!! My cat can actually reach the “ spot” with her back foot!. She is extremely DETERMINED! She will spend 48 hours scratching her head and licking her back feet. I really think the stuff burns our pets skin that’s why cats react so violently. We may never get a straight answer, definitely not from a Vet because they wanna sell the product. 💁

Yah same my tomcat never stays still. I tried but It also ended up on his fur than the skin.

My cats hated the over the counter treatment, but I finally took them to the vet and got them Revolution PLUS. They tolerate it much better and don't seem to be affected like the more toxic, over the counter stuff. It dries super fast without any flaking or harsh chemical stuff. Yes it's more expensive and a hassle to go to the vet, but now I see it's worth it. Good luck. 😻

I have a rescue cat, and even though I have had her for 2 years, and she has come on leaps and bounds, this is impossible. and no chance of using a towel, to wrap her, because as soon as she sees that, she's too wise and is off.

I know your pain 🥲 Just a couple days ago I spent around 20 minutes on trying to get the 2nd cat to apply the treatment on him because he kept running away and hiding after witnessing the horrors of the flea treatment application that I performed on the other, THANKFULLY way calmer cat 😅 The worst part was obviously holding him and applying the stuff, all by myself...after which he was so upset that he hid from me every time he saw or heard me call him.

Hello, thank you for your comment! 😄 It’s important that spot on flea treatments are applied to the skin, not the fur, so you may need to apply the pipette in 2 or 3 ‘spots’ to make sure the product doesn’t end up on the fur. However, it’s very important that you apply the flea treatment in an area that your cat can’t reach to lick to keep them safe. If you’re worried there is too much spot on solution for one area, you could try parting the fur on the back of the neck in 3 places near each other so you can apply the spot-on. This will make sure it’s applied in a safe place and that the correct dose goes onto the skin. You might also want to check the information leaflet and instructions for your flea treatment, this will give you more information about applying the flea treatment. How did it go? Did he heal? I am experiencing the same thing. Although I can actually pet mine. The thing is, all his head hair is gone now now I don't even need to part his hair anymore. There is no hair to part I can just put it on while he eats or lets me pet him. I think he has mange. At the very least he seems to have mites. At least that's what the Facebook cat groups told me. Scabies are a family member of mites or something, so they're the same as mange I believe.

I had similar from a plastic collar that killed fleas. My cat had her skin burned by it as it was far too strong. It definitely cleared fleas she picked up within a day, they dropped off dead in no time, but her eyes looked all watery so I removed the collar, combed and bathed her. Now I just apply treatment as shown here. It's a reaction similar to the way we have sensitive skin. One thing I would suggest is going to a vet, they can treat this easily and your cat will be much happier. If you leave sores or cuts they get infected.

This is quite a common problem with our feline friends - the smell and the sensation of the flea treatment on their skin aren’t things they particularly enjoy. 🥺 We recommend using a high-value treat that she doesn’t get very often but really loves. Choose something like a paste that you can spread onto a surface or a lick mat, and let her enjoy that whilst you apply the treatment. 😸 Hopefully, if you offer her the treat before you even open the flea treatment packet, she will be enjoying the treat too much to notice what you are doing, and she may even learn that the routine of her flea treatment means that she gets an amazing treat and she won’t run away! 🐾

Hi there, Pemik! Flea spot-on treatments should be applied directly to the skin high up, at the back of the neck or head, so that the treatment can't be reached easily by the pet. Parting the hair to apply the product directly to the skin not only helps the treatment work effectively but also means that once the hair goes back into place the treated area is covered effectively. If cats do accidentally lick the treatment, you will find that they drool and salivate excessively and it may generally make them feel unwell. This usually passes within a short time without you needing to do anything, but if you're worried at all you must contact your vet for advice 🐾

Hi Aleshaa, I'm sorry to hear that your cat has had a reaction like this to the spot on treatment. The product needs to be applied well out of the cats reach so that the cat can't turn and lick the product off the back of the neck, as well as this if they scratch with their paws the area that has been treated, then clean themselves they can also take some of the medication in by mouth which can cause this excessive drooling. Some cats are very sensitive to spot on products and they can suffer with skin reactions. I would recommend that you speak to your vet about this and they'll be able to advise you on an alternative product to use in future. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Yasmin at PDSA.

Hi, Thanks for your comment. There are lots of different spot on flea treatments available, many that treat other parasites such as ear mites too. The product Senergy contains the drug Selamectin which does also treat ear mites. The exact method of how a spot-on treatment works depends on the brand and its formula, but in most cases, once the spot-on treatment is applied, the liquid is absorbed into the skin. Here, the active ingredient will either spread beneath the layers of your pet’s skin and kill the parasite’s directly on contact, by them eating/ingesting debris from your pets skin i.e ear mites or it will be absorbed into your pet’s bloodstream, killing the parasites once they bite your pet’s skin. If you are unsure of exactly what medication your pet has had prescribed or how it works, speak to your vet for further advice 🐾

@@pdsa thanks for replying, Frankie is my first cat and he has been scratching and grooming himself so much that he has a hair patch and I can see sores there,I can also feel a few other sores on his body…he is a house cat and I got him some frontline plus and I put it on him and he seemed a lot better after a few hours but this morning he is back to it! I don’t know what to do for him as I am in a bad way for money atm as I am on employment support…I tried to get on with pdsa but it says I’m not in the catchment! Vets haven’t helped me either. Any info to help him would be brilliant.

Hi Ana, as ingesting the flea treatment could cause toxicity, we would recommend keeping your cats separate until the treatment has dried on their skin, if they’re likely to lick it from each other. We wouldn’t recommend using a bandana as your cats could find this distressing 🐾

Hi Sama, we would not recommend you use flea treatment on your cat's head. The reason you apply it to the back of their neck is to prevent them from itching it away; this is important for its even distribution. Cat's cannot reach the back of their neck, but they will be able to rub it if applied on their head! 🐾

Hi there. That's a great question. No, when applying a spot on flea product apply it as shown in this video. This video only applies to flea spot on treatments, which are usually given as a one off application, given every few weeks (depending on the product-please refer to manufacturer's instructions) if you are not sure about how much you should be applying, do speak to your vet again and ask them to clarify the dose. Just be patient - my cat got annoyed when I tried to apply it initially so I left her to relax for a while. When I tried the second time she didn’t resist at all and let me apply it. Maybe let your cat see and investigate the applier first and once they’re comfortable with it they are compliant in my experience
