Carers allowance is a lot more complicated than this - there are all kind of hacks such as legitimate work expenses that can be deducted from your pay - such as a lease car on PCP you need for your job or a mileage or meals allowance, half your pension contributions, any tax and NI etc - and also, dont forget that the earnings threshold means just that - it only counts earned income - not unearned income from, e.g., a workplace pension or income from premium bonds or investments. If your income rises, it is usually better to top up your pension contributions - most schemes allow this.

My mother gets pip, I help her by cooking for her, doing house work and I help her with shopping, taking her to appointments ect ect. I work 12 hours for 4 days per week. So would I be able to apply?

You need to spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone. And the person you care for must already receive one of the following benefits: Personal Independence Payment (daily living component) Disability Living Allowance (the middle or highest care rate) Attendance Allowance Constant Attendance Allowance at or above the normal maximum rate with an Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit Constant Attendance Allowance at the basic (full day) rate with a War Disablement Pension Armed Forces Independence Payment Child Disability Payment (the middle or highest care rate) Adult Disability Payment (daily living component at the standard or enhanced rate)

Yes, you can still apply for a spouse visa while being a foster parent. There's no restriction on fostering affecting your spouse visa eligibility. However, the main focus of the spouse visa application is your relationship with your spouse who already has settled status in the UK. Being a foster parent might be seen positively as demonstrating your caring nature and ability to handle responsibility, but it's not the primary factor. Yes, foster parent allowances are tax-free! The UK government offers tax relief for foster carers. This means you don't pay income tax on: The first £18,140 of your total fostering income per tax year. When have you applied ? It usually takes up to 8 weeks to process, someone shared online that they have to wait 15 weeks due to complications in the documents. Hope you get it soon...

You generally cannot receive Carer's Allowance while on income-related ESA. However, you can claim an "underlying entitlement" to Carer's Allowance. This means you meet the criteria but won't receive the payment itself because of income-related ESA. This "underlying entitlement" might become relevant in the future if your circumstances change, such as switching to contribution-based ESA. If your mother receives a "severe disability premium" with her benefits, this might stop when you claim Carer's Allowance.

If I'm earning £139 per week, that amounts to £556 monthly. And on top of that, if I'm receiving a carer's allowance of £76.75 per week, it adds up to £307 monthly. Altogether, it looks like I'm making £863 per month. I'm just not sure if I'm under the earnings limit or over it. Can you help explain how it all works? The website info isn't clear, and I'm feeling a bit lost. Thanks!"

You're right, the information can be confusing! Let's break it down to see if your earnings are under the Carer's Allowance limit. Carer's Allowance Earnings Limit Update (April 2024): The good news is that the Carer's Allowance earnings limit has increased from £139 per week in 2023/24 to £151 per week starting April 2024. Here's how it applies to you: Your earnings: £139 per week New Earnings Limit: £151 per week Since your weekly earnings (£139) are below the new weekly earnings limit (£151), you should be okay to continue receiving Carer's Allowance. Monthly Calculations: Weekly earnings: £139 Monthly earnings (after 4 weeks): £139/week * 4 weeks/month = £556/month Carer's Allowance is not counted towards earnings limit. Therefore, even if you add your Carer's Allowance amount: Monthly Carer's Allowance: £76.75/week * 4 weeks/month = £307/month Combined monthly income: £556 (your earnings) + £307 (Carer's Allowance) = £863/month The Carer's Allowance itself doesn't affect your earnings limit assessment. So, as long as your earnings stay under £151 per week, you should be eligible to continue receiving the Carer's Allowance www.gov.uk/carers-allowance
