The proper techniques for applying Golden's Archival Varnish.
GOLDEN Archival Aerosol MSA (Mineral Spirit Acrylic) Varnish w/UVLS provides a finish layer for fine artworks, is removable for conservation purposes, and offers excellent dirt, dust and moisture resistance in a flexible film. It is produced with clear, 100% acrylic solution polymer and contains UltraViolet Light filters and Stabilisers (UVLS) to provide archival protection, inhibiting light damage. These fast-drying, more convenient varnishes are available in Gloss, Satin and Matte finishes. The unique adjustable fan spray tip allows for precise application with reduced overspray. The products adhere to a wide variety of surfaces and paint mediums, including acrylics, oils, alkyds, watercolours, temperas, and ink-jet prints. The 10 fl. oz. cans contain enough product to achieve approximately 25-30 square feet of coverage.

MSA (Mineral Spirit Acrylic) Varnish with UVLS (UltraViolet Light Stabilisers) is a Mineral Spirit Acrylic-borne resin system. MSA Varnish forms a tougher, less permeable film than waterborne acrylic emulsion varnishes. It reduces dirt penetration and surface marring, offering an extremely level film with less foam and fewer pinholes. Removable with turpentine after drying. Available in Gloss, Satin and Matte. may I ask a question? how do you deal with spraying on an irregular object? Say if I have a watercolor-painted plastic casing and want to do acrylic spray to make the watercolors waterproof, does it work? The plastic household object will be touched on a daily basis, so I'm also concerned that the acrylic will come off in my hands.

It should be fine, MSA varnish (or regular acrylic varnish) dries to form a waterproof layer. I would first do a test to make sure the varnish doesn't interfere with the paint, and that it gives a suitable finish.

Hey when i use Acrylic varnish on a 300 g/m2 Watercolor paper the paper breaks , something white is emerging up from the paper. Like there’s something in the paper can’t handle something in the varnish! But when I use it on regular cheap drawing paper it’s all fine! Nothing happens!. I’ve tested on multiple brands of watercolor paper, with different varnishes. But nothing works, still the same effect. Works on cheap paper but not on expensive watercolor paper. Like some “ingredient” in watercolor paper is doing it, but I don’t know which one.......these tests are getting expensive too:/

If you're mounting a paper piece to a wooden board using a medium, is it better to varnish before mounting or after?

Robert Davis Afterwards. You need the flexibility of the unvarnished work when adhering it to a board. Once it is fully dry and adhered to the board, that's when you should reach for the varnish :)
