Your videos are the best! Thank you. Question: On my next board (EPS / epoxy) I’m going to have yellow rails with clear deck and bottom. I will paint the rails with yellow acrylic paint. I want the painted rails to get narrower as they get closer to the nose and tail. Would you just eyeball where you mask it out as you approach the nose and tail or is there a different way you would do that?

i think i would just eyeball it. i can’t really think of any better methods. maybe make a few marks along the desired line just to make sure both sides are even. good luck with it!

thanks so much! the sander is just a dewalt 5inch rotary sander. I think i got a softer pad for it off of amazon

looks sweet! when you sand the pannels do yoy try and get rid of all the shinny spots like yoy would when sanding a regular hot coat?

yeah, as long as the shiny top layer is off it should work just fine. You can sand further if you want to remove the bump on the edge of the panel but that's just for aesthetics.

Nice video! I've been struggling with hot coat or even just gloss coat with epoxy. It seems like it doesn't want to stick! The board is clean (sanded and cleaned with alcohol or acetone). Any tips? Thanks.

thank you! a thorough sanding and alcohol is all i’ve got for you really. The only other thing i could think of is to make sure it’s entirely dust free before putting the hot coat on

I like your stuff bro, shaper/ glasser myself. Picked up a ton of tidbits from your videos. I've failed many times doing this. I end up sanding through the hot coat down to the panel too often, granted that happens everytime, especially with pin lines. How are you assessing how far down to sand that colored resin layer. As well, that freaking yellow tape has been my enemy lately, I can't get it to not bleed color underneath it either onto glass or foam, any tips?

thanks! glad the video is helping. for sanding the panels, the only things i’m concerned with are removing the top wax layer and removing the bump from the edge. i go super slow either by hand or with ~320 grit disc. for the bleeding, the only thing i’ve really got is to make sure you press the tape down well with your thumb. and also make sure that your paper you’re using to mask with before lamination isn’t leaking(meaning not water proof). i’ve made that mistake before

I just use sanding resin, but gloss should work too.

is this poly resin? if so, have you ever done a poly resin pinline on epoxy? how do you think that'd go?

this is all poly and i haven’t used epoxy for surfboards at all, but i think that you might have some bonding issues if you try to do one on top of the other.
