How much of the NTS or the KSL shot cycle can be applied to barebow archery form? Surprisingly to some..... a lot. My list is much shorter on what doesn't apply to barebow and I cover those things in the ksl shot cycle that do not apply to barebow archery in this video.

Not a barebow shooter myself (olympic recurve) but still love seeing how you transfer coach lee’s methods to barebow. Your experience shines no matter what discipline you’re currently in. You’re a credit to the archery community Jake.

Everytime i see you shotting bare bow, I am impressed how clean and aligned you look. I really look forward seeing you in a competition. Compared to most top archers in field archery, or even lately in US championship, you look much cleaner. Really eager to see how it turns out... Cheers from France.

My barebow coach has been teaching me NTS for about 2 years or so now lol; he'd be excited to see this video. I remember a friend seeing me shoot and said _"are you shooting NTS?!"_ and seemed really weirded out by it. Thanks Jake for the always awesome vids!

Thanks for another excellent video Jake. I can feel my draw shoulder joint slip out of position as I move to anchor under my eye.....just not worth the damage

Hey Jake, once you start shooting more with barebow it would be great to get your thoughts on aiming. It's quite an individualised element of barebow from a personal and equipment standpoint (instinctive, periphery vision, point on/stringwalking, hi/low aiming, etc) quite different to compound and olympic where aiming is a bit more black and white. Just interested in your thoughts and findings as you go : )

The mention of no clicker made me wonder if anybody has yet created a digital clicker that would mount through the rest/plunger mount and shine a light onto the arrow shaft and "see" when a reflective dot passed by and sound an audible alarm or flash a light to signal the shot? The dot could be painted onto any shaft at any point so long arrows could be utilized as well as arrows with broad heads. It wouldn't compromise performance or be incompatible with hunting applications so would move the ball forward so to speak. I know you sometimes work with manufacturers so here's a free idea for you/them/the sport.

My opinion....The big difference between BB and Recurve anchor style is the higher trapezius participations to loading. If the BB shooter has point finger to mouth corner anchor or higher its almost impossible to have lo tension on high trapezius because of higher elbow position aka. a straight line from arrow tip to end of the elbow. If you try to keep lo elbow and semi relax trapezius with high anchoring you get some odd kind of angle in your wrist and tension to the middle finger on your hook. So you lose almost 1 cm from your draw length.

I've been interested in getting a barebow, but don't know if I'd like it, so I don't want to spend a lot of money. What is the best barebow for the price, on your opinion? Thanks for your videos. They are a big help.

You can start with any recurve riser and use weights to get the balance correct. Plenty of risers capable of that from WNS and Samick to Hoyt and Wiawis.

Vast number of BB shooters use under-the-cheek-bone anchor, which is considered as a high anchor. I am just curious if there would really be no change in posture and shoulders alignment having this type of anchor, since the line of force if different from under-the-chin anchor IMHO.

I can see the low anchor having an effect on nock on distance and the amount of string walking that would be needed outside/inside that distance. I could be horribly wrong though ;)

"What Changes Crawls? Many factors can influence your crawls. The biggest, and easiest change to make, is your anchor point since this also affects the launch angle of your arrows. When shooting with an Olympic Recurve anchor, under the chin, your point on distance will be much farther away, because of the steep launch angle of the arrow. If you look at most competitive barebow archers, such as John Demmer, Rick Stonebraker, and Michael Fisher, you’ll see that they tend to have much higher anchors. Their anchors are usually located somewhere on the side of the face, referencing the corner of the mouth or the cheekbone, for example. By anchoring higher, the point on distance is reduced, and the finger crawls will be shorter at closer shooting distances."

I just posted this as a reply below but I think it may be of interest to those who might miss a response to a response.... trojanarchery.com/2019/09/28/introduction-to-stringwalking/ "What Changes Crawls? Many factors can influence your crawls. The biggest, and easiest change to make, is your anchor point since this also affects the launch angle of your arrows. When shooting with an Olympic Recurve anchor, under the chin, your point on distance will be much farther away, because of the steep launch angle of the arrow. If you look at most competitive barebow archers, such as John Demmer, Rick Stonebraker, and Michael Fisher, you’ll see that they tend to have much higher anchors. Their anchors are usually located somewhere on the side of the face, referencing the corner of the mouth or the cheekbone, for example. By anchoring higher, the point on distance is reduced, and the finger crawls will be shorter at closer shooting distances. The arrow and bow combination also highly influences crawl lengths. Longer arrows have tips that are farther away, essentially extending your “sight”, and would therefore reduce crawl lengths. Heavier arrows drop off faster, leading to a shorter point-on distance. The same reason holds for a weaker bow. In addition, the arrow points lower with a higher nocking point points than a lower nocking point, this will reduce the crawl needed. Because the tune of your bow changes for every crawl, keep detailed notes on the tiller, plunger stiffness, nocking point height, and brace height that gives the best tune for each distance. When preparing for a competition, make sure you are tuned for the distance being shot. For indoor, your crawl will be longer, so you will likely have a more negative tiller and a weaker plunger spring. The opposite goes for outdoor. If you ever shoot field, where you are shooting at many targets at variable distances, tune for your average crawl, likely for 30-40 meters, and hope for the best. In summary, a higher anchor, longer and heavier arrow, weaker bow, higher nocking point will reduce the crawl needed for any distance. For target competitions with fixed distances, tune for that distance. For field competitions with varying distances, tune for the average distance."

So although my initial thought about a low anchor point making it tricky to tune your bow without massive string walks, it seems there are many ways to skin a cat.
