Getting into scripture can be overwhelming and confusing! This week Dr. Hahn shares pointers from his own journey on how a simple change in mindset can help us approach scripture. Adopting a holy humility, admitting to the Lord what doesn't make sense, is the key. Dr. Hahn coins this as the holy "Huh??" This childlike honesty and intellectual simplicity open a new relationship with the Lord and allows Him to reveal his Word speaking to us.
Yours,

I am a Protestant, but Scott Hahn has probably been the single greatest influence on me theologically. And we have deep disagreements, probably not the ones you think, but I fully expect to be standing in the light of the Trinity with this man one day. Christ, be merciful to us. Holy Mary, pray for us.

Ah yes, here I am.... I grew up getting into my dad's truck with my family and he would already have one of your cassette tapes going. On long road trips, we would all say "Ohh no, here comes dad's Scott Hahn tapes" and we'd drift off to sleep. Amazingly, some of those tapes absorbed and blew my mind and I remember them 10-15 years later. Fast forward, im 25 now. I woke up one day and decided that I wanted to be closer to God. So I bought my own Bible with large margins with the intention of going through it while I get through grad school. I told my dad about it, and he sent me this video a week later. I have no doubt that he's been secretly praying that I would come to it on my own. So, here I am. It's now my turn to binge study all of your content. The cycle continues and I'm excited.

Dear Dr Hahn. 1989, I was a 30 year old cradle Catholic. My 40 something workmate was a very chatty evangelical Christian. Every now and then we discussed our particular perspective on Our Lord and the Faith. But I couldn’t make any headway with my friend regarding authentic Christianity ie Catholicism. My wife and I became good friends with the Mother of God Brothers (MGoB) at the former St John’s Orphanage in Thurgoona. One of the brothers prayed to St Gerard Majella to help my wife and I conceive our first child on the feast of the Mother God, 1 January 1990. This was a huge spiritual shot in the arm for my wife and I who had be trying to conceive ever since we married 1987. The MoGB brothers introduced me to cassette tapes of Catholic apologists Tim Staples, Gerry Matatics and Scott Hahn. Your testimony tapes were a huge shot in the arm for me, emboldening and encouraging me to share the true faith with my workmate. I still wasn’t able to convince him of Catholic truth. But we remained friends, even when we lived far apart. Thank you Dr Hahn for inspiring me to fight the good fight and never give up.

I am truly an example of God does not call the qualified He Qualifies the called Cradle Cathlic never read the Bible until late. I open the book and actually understand what the Lord is saying. My ❤ aches for Him. The disrespect going on in the Chaple and in our Church is like they are going to the movies. No silence. Unceasing prayers for all who ask and even those who tell me there are no prophesies in the Bible. They are waiting for a sign.😔 103 years of Warnings from our Lady of Fatima isnt enough. I know you mean good. But as a Catholic should not the Eukharist or Jesus himself in flesh & blood be our center or that keeps us Catholic. Because if not then the worse fears with regard to the curfews is basically coming true. The Sacrifice of the Mass not at the center of worship also.

The difficulty we have in reading Sacred Scripture begins when we read it as Literature. Just as History becomes what someone else took the time to analyze and choose which events have a pattern and generate meaning for us, if we accept their analysis, so Scripture can become what someone else tells me God's word means. The reason we have faith in the meaning of Scripture is that we have a clear apostolic tradition and doctrinal safeguards to help. Yet the Word of God only becomes such when, as you said, we ask God our questions. This is prayer. Prayer can begin with Faith or it can begin seeking faith. Yet the only hope of allowing faith to grow into Faith is by allowing God's love to reach us and transform us. That transforming Love comes to the Mystics who allow their experience of God through contemplation to begin purifying their Faith. God reveals Himself in Light that they experience as darkness. It is only by allowing every image and impression of God to be negated in the intellect through Faith, that choice to accept God's presence in darkness. Those continuous acts of Faith purify the will so that only Love is communicated directly to the mystic. Do we want to learn who God is? Then we must choose to allow God to strip away every material concept we have and replace it with the dark night wherein He comes with Love.

One of the most helpful aids I ever received on reading the Bible was to see the parallel between the community and the individual. You can substitute the individual for Israel (or the Church) and vice versa. Indeed Israel is itself both the name of God's chosen and a person. So this is not a contemporary view, but a religious truth that goes to the heart of God's plan.
@paulmiller3469
@paulmiller3469 4 жыл бұрын
One of the more useful comments I've seen. I would add that while making that substitution, there is multiple levels of intended meaning, so we also are well advised to remain open to 'both/and' interpretations. Actually it's a tip I received when reading Shakespeare in college. He used so much simile and metaphor, the reader had to think through all possible intended meanings of each, and basically read each work like it was, in actuality, multiple works.

I've been a student of Dr. Hahn's bible studies for years and find him one of the best bible scholars in our time. Recently, I've been watching the Jordan Peterson biblical series and find them very intriguing and can't help to think that Dr. Hahn wouldn't disagree with a lot of his perspectives. I am wondering if Dr. Hahn has viewed them, they are quite lengthy, and if he has any comments or opinions about Dr. Peterson's analysis of the bible?

This is the Gospel of Your Salvation: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, HOW that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" -- 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV Bible) No amount of good works can save you, only the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross can -- only his BLOOD can erase your sins. BELIEVE WITH YOUR WHOLE HEART the gospel of your salvation and you are SEALED with the holy Spirit of promise until the day of redemption (the day you are raptured). Most Powerful Weapon - Prayer Ephesians 6: 12-13 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. Matthew 5:4 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Luke 6:37 Judge not, and you shall not be judged; condemn not, and you shall not be condemned; forgive, and you shall be forgiven: The ONLY way America will be great again...is for America to return to the God who made America great in the first place. One Nation under God , Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All. We are currently living in troubled times. Masses of people (Antifa, BLM, SJWs, etc.) have gravely lost their way. The root of their illness - FEAR. We use the law at them in hopes of subduing/eliminating the problem. Yet the most powerful weapon of all is not being widely or wisely used - prayer. I have been a member of a prayer group for over 30 years and have first hand experience of the effectiveness of prayer. The evidence of the miracles produced by prayer are overwhelming and undisputed. The Bible states - Perfect Love casts out fear. Hate the sin but love the sinner. Start today and pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary for her help. The Lady of All Nations asks us to pray the rosary and this daily. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father, Send Now Your Spirit Over The Earth. Let the Holy Spirit Live in the Hearts Of All Nations, That They May Be Preserved From Degeneration, Disaster And War. May the Lady Of All Nations, who once was Mary, Be Our Advocate, Amen. We The People - In God We Trust 🇺🇸Trump 2020 and Beyond 🇺🇸KAG🇺🇸 🇺🇸WWG1WGA🇺🇸

Smooth 528: Perhaps this isn't the right platform for my comments, but I find it very disturbing that you would post such politically biased words on a site that is devoted to the just and fair word of God. I can't help but notice that the groups of people whom you have singled out are those who are fighting for the God-given rights of the unfortunates and unjustly-treated of this world. As I read your words, I felt an ever deepening sinking in the pit of my stomach, as I realized that you were using this site as a means to campaign for your favoured politician. I won't criticize your choice, but I do take exception to your using this Catholic site which is dedicated to the open-mindedness and fairness of our Saviour on which to do it. I have been a Catholic for over 70 years and I've never thought of (or used) God as a political tool. It pains me to see it happening here. May God bless you.

I went through a few recognizable phases of basically believing it was so because others were saying so, to questioning what seemed like contradictions (arrogantly assuming I had full understanding and thus could recognize contradictions), to working through those, to a new round of questions over translation and all the problems associated with that, to again working through those... Eventually I came to see the wisdom in multiple senses (literal, allegorical, moral, anagogical), and wasn't surprised to learn that wisdom, with one difference, was around before Christ became flesh (the difference being Jews in Old Covenant times should not have been expected to to develop an anagogical sense when their priesthood didn't believe in individual life after death). That multiple-sense recognition led to some mind-blowing discoveries, helped me to see some of the connecting dots between Old and New Covenants (still discovering connections), and over time I just came to believe it was so - not because others say so, but because I could see (some of) it for myself. I was a criminal justice major, but also dabbled with some literature undergrad and grad level. In my view, Sacred Scripture is a whole different level of complexity, and beyond what uninspired human authors or even human-built AI could produce.

Read the Bible and let the Bible interpret the Bible as it does. It is 66 books and we need to cross reference each book and take it as a whole. Quoting one verse or chapter on its own doesn't carry the full meaning. Dr Hugh Ross is a gifted minister and founder of Reasons to Believe and has this great ability to combine the 66 books which makes his interpretation very clear. It is he who said the Bible interprets itself and I agree, but I'm not gifted like he is at cross-referencing 66 books. He is a true Christian and came to Jesus through his work as an astrophysics. He has a brilliant mind and I recommend him to everyone who wants to know the truth. MARANATHA.

Hann Scott failed to mention all those aha moment are about God's revelation of true love. The whole Scripture, from first to last, is about the expression of Agapaian_Love. If we take off that insight into the ways and in which God guide human history, obviously the Bible, especially the Old Testament, is a crude book. The way to understand the Bible is to read from God's point of view, from the Absolute Logos of Love. For that one must beg for the Holy Spirit to be within one's mind and heart. "God desired to be worshipped both in Spirit and Truth." (John 4:4) These are the two united binoculars to see the economy of salvation history with all its up and down from God's point of view. We need The Triune God to read the Word of God working both ad extra and ad intra reality. Most Holy God, thru the intercession of our ever Blessed Lady Queen of Heaven n Earth Mary Most Holy, help us in this endeavor !!

Yah' shabbat, shalom wa barakah, breadren. YhWh sabbath, peace and prosperity, bread ie messenger. I took the passed 30 years to understand the bible, my Shemitic cousin. Shemitic because i kin, can see you tan! Meaning gr8 elder Shem has the capacity to live in both hot and cold lands, as such was provided him, the land if both hot and cold. In my research i sought to understand why the paternal Yahudim aka Judeans written as Jews, though this is our meshpaca in Israel today, because the Paternal and maternals where separated in Spain in 1491. During the Spanish inquisition. This aeparation caused a rift in the royal Davidic line. With the Paternals being punished 1st, then the maternals who grafted into The northern nation, in ww2 by an Ahole named Hitler who called our maternal family fatherless children. What a Jerk. Anyway in my understanding, i feel compelled, upon discovering Yahudah, Judah ruled Europe with an iron pen, see old testament. Therefore may i apologize for their stupid error, hence i called them Yahuduhites. It was a very very terrible thing they dis that has left a tear in our family. Again i apologize for their ignorance. My point is, as is written, if what ive recovered as historical evidence, the paternals orchestrated the hanging of the Messiyah and ushered in the gentile age, as is written. It no small wonder why so many are off track and deceived. If this be the case, i fear for our family in these last days. Because we have much re-educating to do. And the Spirit has brought tour video near me that i may discuss these things with you and mayhap, if true, help our family recover and come back together. Let me know and ill send my findings. Yah shabbat shalom wa barakah, breadren. My God bless you and Elohiym prosper you as well.

Why do you commit idolatry by calling a book the title for the second member of the Trinity, who is God Himself? The Word of God, according to Scripture is an exclusive title for Jesus Christ. The Bible nor the Old Testament ever refers to itself as "The Word of God", but only as Scriptures, the Testimony of God, the Law and the Prophets. It would have been blasphemous for a Christian to call the book as if it were God. For to them The Word of God was Jesus. See John 1:1.

And yet, the word of the Lord is the source of sin, Sir, so the divine author Himself has to be something incredibly wicked and completely evil *in and of Himself*; as that book only leads the faithful to sin, and anything that leads anyone at all to sin cannot be from God, so it has to be from the devil- that means that the bible has to be diabolical in and of its very nature and make, completely irredeemably so.

Scott, your not getting as many views because you’re pretty silent about everything that’s happening in the church these days. If you believe it shouldn’t be talked about then I would like to hear about that publicly. Out of all the people speaking about the Catholic Church these days, your the one I have wanted to hear from most. My dad wants to hear from you too. We need your thoughts on the matter. Just my own opinion. God bless

So, let me be sure I understand your point. First is that Dr. Hahn should not feel free to make the videos that interest him (and clearly reading of Sacred Scripture interests him), but instead should make the videos that interest you. Is that right? Second is he should pursue KZfaq 'views' at all cost, even when it means making videos he otherwise wouldn't make. True again?

The adjective “apocryphal” has come to be applied to those books that DO NOT bear the marks of divine inspiration. SO, why would Catholics boast of having them in their bible?! Because they support their LIES. This is where they get their doctrines! READ ON BUT NOTE, Jesus and his Disciples Never Quoted from Apocrypha: Jesus Christ and his inspired New Testament penmen quoted from the writings and events of the Old Testament profusely. Some thousand quotations or allusions from thirty-five of the thirty-nine Old Testament books are found in the New Testament record. And yet, not once of these any "apocryphal" books that Catholics use are quoted or even explicitly referred to by the Lord or by any New Testament writer! Ample evidence not inspired by God: Creation Contradiction: Rather than the creation being spoken into existence from nothing by the word of Almighty God, as affirmed in the Scriptures (Gen. 1:1; Psa. 33:6-9; Heb. 11:3), the Apocrypha has God creating the world out of “formless matter” (Wisdom of Solomon 11:17). False Doctrines: The Apocrypha teaches the erroneous doctrine of the pre-existence of the soul, suggesting that the kind of body one now has is determined by the character of his soul in a previous life Now I was a goodly child, and a good soul fell to my lot; Nay rather, being good, I came into a body undefiled” (Wisdom of Solomon 8:19-20). The foregoing was a common belief among heathen peoples, but certainly it is contrary to the biblical view that the soul of man is formed with him at conception (Psa. 139:13-16; Zech. 12:1). Praying for the Dead: The Apocrypha teaches that prayer may be made for the dead: “Wherefore he made the propitiation for them that had died, that they might be released from their sins” (2 Maccabees 12:45). Roman Catholics cite this passage to find support for their dogma of praying for the dead to be released from purgatory, but the effort is vain. Obviously there’s no New Testament passage to buttress the notion. Alms for Sins: The Apocrypha suggests that one may atone for his sins by the giving of alms: “It is better to give alms than to lay up gold: alms doth deliver from death, and it shall purge away all sin” (Tobit 12:9). Contradictions Contradictions With Itself: There are two contradictory accounts of the death of Antiochus Epiphanes, that dreaded enemy of the Jews. One narrative records that Antiochus and his company were “cut to pieces in the temple of Nanaea by the treachery of Nanaea’s priests” (2 Maccabees 1:13-16), while another version in the same book states that Antiochus was “taken with a noisome sickness” and so “ended his life among the mountains by a most piteous fate in a strange land” (2 Maccabees 9:19-29 The Suspect Morality of the Apocrypha The moral tone of the Apocrypha is far below that of the Bible. Note some examples: Suicide Noble? The apocrypha applauds suicide as a noble and manful act. Second Maccabees tells of one Razis who, being surrounded by the enemy, fell upon his sword, choosing “rather to die nobly” than to fall into the hands of his enemy. He was not mortally wounded, however, and so threw himself down from a wall and “manfully” died among the crowds (14:41-43). Magical Potions: It describes magical potions which are alleged to drive demons away (Tobit 6:1-17). Murder Applauded: The murder of the men of Shechem (Gen. 34), an act of violence which is condemned in the Scriptures (cf. Gen. 49:6-7), is commended and is described as an act of God (Judith 9:2-9). These, along with various other considerations, lead only to the conclusion that the Apocrypha cannot be included in the volume of sacred Scripture. Members of the Roman Catholic Church often note with pride, that their version of the Bible contains more books than standard translations used by non-Catholics. There are several reasons why the Apocrypha is to be rejected as part of the Bible. The Catholic Church is a religious mixture of seemingly pious worship toward the Creator, yet underneath the façade is every abomination imaginable, and pagan influences. It's a religious hypocrisy and self-righteousness at its worst!
