Great Video! Wife and I watched this before assembling 3 yesterday. Followed the video's instructions for the 1st one and learned some ways to speed the other 2 along. Tips: Cut the box open along the upper edges, halfway, creating a flap from which to slide all contents out, while keeping the integrity of box so it can be your work surface. Lay the roof on the box and install railings and L brackets, set it aside side. Then, lay the doors on the box and Install all door hardware except the hinges BEFORE you install the doors (this is much easier than installing the hardware once the door is hung.) Also, Use the Philips head screwdriver and mallet to punch out all holes for the the door handles and lock latches, this will make it much easier to push the designated bolts through. Once all parts are on the doors and roof, THEN assemble it all together, per instructions. Snapping the hinges into place can be a pain. The trick is to ensure that the edge of the hinge is fully seated in the groove, THEN push/snap the rest of the hinge into place. Half of the time, the hinge screw will not find the threaded hole on the hinge right way...if you sort of play with/manipulate/squeeze the support surrounding plastic, it will help the screw find the hole. The shed is incredibly well designed and easy to assemble. And when it isn't 94 degrees with 90% humidity and no shade, with a hurricane heading your way in 4 days (FL) ...its actually kind of a fun husband and wife activity to share.

Since the screws don't actually screw into the plastic, you can put them through and start them into the hinge threads, and THEN snap the hinges onto the walls, and finally tighten everything up. That's a whole lot easier than getting them snapped on and then trying to get the screws lined up by feel.

Thanks, Todd. I just finished loading my tools, a few bags of soil, fertilizer, extra fence pickets, and extra wood pieces into my 4x6 Suncast, which I bought at Sam’s on sale for something like $329. I am very happy with the finished product, although it took this inexperienced builder a lot longer than most suggest, mostly because I built the foundation and the shed almost entirely by myself and it was hot outside. My son and wife helped a little at various times, but having a helper throughout the process certainly would have made a huge difference, especially with the foundation and the doors. My schedule prevented me from working on it until a few weeks after I bought it, plus it took me several hours (over various days) building the wood foundation that the instructions recommended. I’m glad I built the wood platform, which I placed on four large pavers at each corner (the pavers sit on 4 inches of gravel that I poured into four paver-shaped holes). Although it was a lot of work to prepare the base to get everything level, it was worth it. Another plastic shed I built 15-20 years ago is having problems with the doors because I placed the shed directly onto a foundation of pavers that I placed directly onto the ground without preparing a proper base. The rain and poor water flow around the 7x7 shed caused one side to sink, which now makes it difficult to open and close the doors. Fixing that problem is the next project. I also understand that there are some building codes that require doing all the fancy stuff I did, because having the space under the wood platform keeps bad thing from happening to the wood, or to the bottom of the shed. I’m also thinking of building some shelves. Maybe I’ll post a video about the shelves,

Good job! I have the same unit from Suncast via Home Depot. They stamp the doors for private labels . Those hinges are a PITA. I still have one that the bolt won't screw in the threads. I drilled out the 1st hole a tiny bit larger, making it a little easier for the bolt to go thru. The one hinge I couldn't screw, I just added a machine screw in the empty hole in the hinge that went into the shed frame

When mounting the roof I noticed that instead of applying pressure from the outside to get the holes to line up you can loosen the top bolt and lower the bracket enough to line up the holes insert the bolt and tighten the bottom one and then retighten the top bolt.

The video is great. Good detail on the S-bar, orientation missing from the manual. The doors are not nearly as easy to put on as Todd suggests. The manual does not explain that hinges are compression, no screws or bolts to hold them on. The bolts compress the hinges against the plastic; they appear to do nothing. By myself (I'm 73 years old), it took over an hour to mount one door.

@@markpruett5496 Yeh, but a drill is a whole lot easier. I just modified the installation to the way it should have been designed: nuts and bolts. I can't believe that Craftsmen engineers have to be so ridiculous with the design. It is the last Craftsmen shed that I will buy, and I certainly will not recommend one to any of my friends.

Lots of complaints about the Suncast online about the door hinge design. People are saying that the door is only held on by the hinge being pinched on. Yours clearly also had through-bolts. I'm curious is everyone is missing them or not understanding instructions correctly?
@markpruett5496
@markpruett5496 6 ай бұрын
The bolts don't really go through the plastic- there a sort of divot there so that the plastic is out of the way. So the easiest way to do it is to start the bolts in the threads, THEN snap the hinges onto the walls after the fact.

So @7:20 securing those 'black pieces'. The Suncast shed brackets I got were unpainted, galvanized steel. If I lined up the holes in the brackets, with what look to be the hole positions on the plastic roof ceiling, the bracket would be way off centered. The roof would not have fit on the structure, as one end of the bracket would stick out and take up all of the groove for the side walls to fit into, when trying to put the roof on. I had to evenly center the bracket, so both ends left room for the walls to fit in there (I just screwed into the plastic at that position). ALSO, my brackets where stamped to wide. They did not initially fit into the long groove, across the roof ceiling, where this bracket is suppose to fit. I had to hammer along the whole length of the bracket, so it would eventually fit into the long groove. (The width of my brackets were 2.1 inches, trying to fit into the groove that's only 2.0 inches.) What a PITA.

This sheds design has a fatal flaw that essentially makes it worthless. The roof is slanted foreword towards the doors. Water drips down the front and clings to the underside of the roof getting in even when the doors are closed, soaking the inside of the shed every time it rains. Even if you don't put tools on the floor, you're still left with a dank, moldy disgusting unusable 600 dollar piece of plastic after a few days of heavy rain. You're better off just building your own shed from PT plywood.
