Stop losing sleep over your data! You need three levels of redundancy: work drive, backup drive AND an offsite/cloud-based copy of all your files! This why you NEED a NAS! We break down the amazing cloud backup automations that a NAS allows a wedding filmmaker to have a virtually worry automated free cloud backup using online storage solutions we are already using like Google Drive, Dropbox, and Box (and more). #NAS #weddingfilmmaking #weddingvideography

SO many questions and even though lots of that went over my head I LOVED this video. Having just done a triple header this wknd I REALLY like the idea of minimising or taking out the human error aspect altogether as far as data backups and redundancy goes More of this please, even if just a vid explaining what all of those NAS terms mean, like 10g 😅

Yeah. The KZfaq gods seem to disagree with your assessment of the video.

Thanks Jason 👍 Surprised i haven't heard of these systems units. Bit of a GAS junkie and watched 1000s of wedding films tutorials and 10,000s of video videos. So. Let me see if I understand this correctly; 1. You have a faster internet connection 10G built in 2. This allows high speed upload to the storage device. 3. It then slowly, at internet speed uploads to a cloud 4. You then have 2 backups 1 onsite, 1 offsite Hope i got this correct? I am not a big fan of cloud systems as I feel you haven't got full control or ownship of content. Some clouds state they own it, others if you don't pay or forget too, may loose your data. I know this is parnoid but I don't trust companies. So can you have it so it stores on two seperate systems owned by you at one or multiple locations?

1. 10g is not your Internet connection. That’s your network speed. You need it to transfer form your computer to your NAS. 2. Yes. Not the cloud though. The NAS is physically on-site and then has an operating system that can upload your footage to a cloud based platform if your choosing. 3. Basically, faster than you think as API connections to most services are faster than browser based uploads. 4. 3 if you do it our way. One on an editing drive, one on the physical NAS, and one in the cloud

Ideally two NAS, one to sync with another ideally off site. Then you might save money on clouds (or do it and have 3 copies). If you get 3, two on site can do high availability (so if one gives up the ghost it'll switch over). I don't know if qnap does it, but I think Synology Plus series and maybe Freenas can. I agree with 10gbe for video guys. For photography, 5 or 2.5gbe has been good for me and much cheaper. Powerful Nas can also have better format types. Zfs/btrfs are better for data integrity and offer snapshots.

NAS stuff is such a deep rabbit hole. I’m not really sure that people have a massive interest in it but we just wanted to test the waters a little. It’s definitely something I’m pretty passionate about and has made my life a lot better and I want to spread the gospel. - Jay
