@@Zdrewe I would like your thoughts on something on my mind. I just bought an Akai APC64. I'm lusting after an expensive piece of equipment called an MP MIDI controller. I can afford it. I want you to tell me that a beginner should absolutely buy it if they think it's going to make their life easier, getting to grips with Ableton and the twisty knobby make music go whooshy thingy. When I say I'm a beginner, I did play tenor sax for a few years, until Temporomandibular disorder said otherwise and I put away my sax and Yamaha WX5 wind controller with VL70m tone generator. I might be able to play the WX5 again, if I swap the sax style mouthpiece for a recorder style mouthpiece. A major barrier to that has been the sax mouthpiece was stuck on like it was superglued when the WX5 got put away over 15 years ago. I found away to get the sax mouthpiece off without damaging anything, which was huge. I've no idea where the recorder mouthpiece that came with the WX5 is, so thank you eBay, another three weeks before spares arrive from Japan. If my fingers still work well enough (they might not, and I got a real issue with what I'll need to do with my left thumb) then I'm going to have massive fun with twisty knobby gadget and WX5. I think a Behringer FCB1010 would compensate for my loss of expression from no jaw/lip and solve my left thumb issue. If you're wondering, the left thumb operates the octave buttons, in a very complex way to cover eight octaves. Do I buy the MP MIDI controller now?

@buxycat wow, so you’re more experienced than your initial comment suggested!! Speaking of MP MIDI, I don’t think it’s necessary to get it any time soon. While it’s definitely a cool piece of technology, basically any MIDI keyboard or controller with knobs (not just keybed) can be fully integrated with Live (either with predefined mappings or the ones you assign on your own). My suggestion instead of MP MIDI would be Push 2 or 3. I know, 3 is a little bit more pricey than MP but it’s basically like having Live on your desk. There are some limitations to third party plugins control but majority of big players have macros already set. That being said you can control plugins “like hardware” as well. Other benefit is definitely the expression pads which let you play any MPE compatible plugin (majority of them are) like a real instrument. Obviously Push grid is nothing like the classic keybed but it’s easy to get used to.

@@Zdrewe Thank you for your advice. I'm still new to the recording side of things, I used to just turn up, take my sax out of its box and the more experienced musicians around me made me sound good. Perhaps I should have gone straight to a tethered Push 3 but my APC64 has one huge advantage for me over a Push 2/3: I can sit with the APC64 on my lap, in my nice comfy Stressless Magic armchair. I did buy keyboards because they had knobs and faders, I returned them because at the end of the day, my aim is to have fun with music, not learn how to play keyboards. So I"m just going to stick with scale/chord mode on my APC64. I guess I need to wait to find out how my WX5 is going to work out for me. Thanks to you, I'm going to stop thinking about other equipment for a while. Have a good one.

Oh you automate on/off? that's so interesting because I always automate dry/wet
@Zdrewe
@Zdrewe Ай бұрын
Yeah, best practice is to automate both. Even if you have delay fully on dry its still picking up the signal in the background so if you chose longer delay times, once you bring it up you will hear the previous notes as well. On/off simply lets you choose the note/notes you want to delay
@GatitoLetal
@GatitoLetal Ай бұрын
Tbh if u automate on/off buttons theres chances to get clicks. Is like when people use heavy ducking curves. You need to smooth it. And the right way to do it is automating the mix knob aka dry / wet so u can do a smooth transition and curve @@Zdrewe 💯🙌
