I have a digital design shop. I’m gonna be launching in the near future. I use Canva and I always use a blank card and create my own masterpiece to sell. What I don’t like about Canva though is that they make a copy off of your own intellectual property and copyright it as their own. I may be going to Adobe express, they don’t steal your work. To anyone selling digital cards, business cards, or templates, make sure you start from scratch and have a license to use the images. It will save you a lot of trouble in the end.

A few years ago, I spent 3 months designing products and getting familiar with Etsy's guidelines before I had the courage to attempt opening my shop. I was banned as soon as I tried to publish my first listing. Never found out why because they wouldn't respond to any of my emails.

My shop was banned for no reason last year during Christmas. It was reinstated really fast, however, since then, it says im banned still when i go to the etsy community. I opened a case to them a while ago, but it was ignored...

Great insight, thank you! Haven’t started anything but research yet and feel a bit lost in general about restrictions and duties. Asked my tax consultant what to do and he said that I don’t need a business registration or sales tax ID number at the beginning. Just play around and see if you are selling anything at all. I have the feeling it does not work this way because it doesn’t matter if you are selling anything when starting a business. I know you are not giving legal advice but could you tell me who would know best about correct online sales? Lawyer? Tax office? IHK? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey there! Thanks for watching the video, and it's great to hear you are researching. We can only speak based on what we know from our collaborating Etsy sellers, that they have a Tax Professional look at and help them with their taxes as it relates to Etsy profit and fees. It is true that in most cases, within the U.S., people use their own tax or SSN and generally have no issues (this is just what we've heard, and what some of us personally have experienced). But again, we can't speak for everyone, nor every country. Sorry if this isn't helpful for you!

Yes, I got banned, but it was billing, corrected right away. I put my shop on vacay...so much going on and it takes a lot of work on the front end. Also trying to rebrand...ugh. I will get there. Thank you for your sharing!

Great video. Great explanations. But after all I've looked into already over the past year and a half, and all I've read in various groups re shops being banned or suspended and the hassles people have gone through (and the reserves.. OmG the reserves).. After this video I'm even less likely to bother with etsy.

Hey thanks for the video!! Quick questions: They banned my shop 2 days after I open it (without even starting to sell), i tried reaching out to Etsy but they don’t answer, and also they don’t give me the reason. My store is in USA, but I added the first listing being from Argentina (And i don’t know if I got banned because of this reason)…. I don’t know if there is a way to recover my account and if not, I will be opening a new account but i don’t want to get banned again and wasted my time.

Hm, we can't speak specifically about whether or not it was because of where you were from, but we have found that many users need to constantly send support tickets to get a response. However, attempting another shop could work out since you hadn't finalized or started selling on the first one.

Hey there! We have several staff with various Etsy accounts, but avoid displaying them publicly, as many people will go to view the shop, increasing traffic, but not generating sales, which will then cause the shop to perform unhealthily. We may show a test or shop from scratch sometime soon though!

I wanted to see what a customer would experience when they will by my product. So i used my second etsy account to by one of my products and i was suspended. Should I admit my mistake to them in my appeal?

This is certainly something that we would not recommend doing. It is possible you can appeal and explain what happened, but you might also try opening up a separate account entirely.

Interesting re vat id requirements for some countries. Im in australia. We dont have vat but its still a requirement. Ill have to investigate

We have a tax treaty with the USA, l believe the VAT is known under different names depending on the country you live in. Here in Australia l thinks it’s your ABN.

Corrent me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Amazon set it up so that it is *their* branded materials attached to your shipments and not your own? A few years ago a video giving advice for fine artists wanting places to sell their art answered this question, stipulating that any buyers are going to associate your product to Amazon because your brand won't be on the packaging.

Hey there! There are a few ways to sell on/through Amazon, and not all of them have branded association with Amazon, so you'll have to look into whichever way that creator was talking about. Generally, when you buy a normal product on Amazon, it comes in that sellers branding/packaging (through having an Amazon Seller Central Account). The package comes in an Amazon box because you purchased it from Amazon, but the product itself would be branded with whatever you set it up to be.

@Kittldesign So iow, I was right. My shipping materials have my brand, including my boxes. But it is still Amazon's that my customers would see in their mailbox. To me, that defeats the purpose of creating and paying for my brand on shipping materials. Thanks for replying. I asked about AI credits a few days ago, but would still like to know about them.

Hey there! You will get an email from Etsy, and upon logging in to your dashboard, you will see a pop up banner with Red telling you your account has been suspended.
