I don’t know if he is practicing or just confused because he has all the space in the world to back up right , but again he might be practicing his backing. I used to do that at shippers when I had time I’ll back into spaces pull out and back up again and again and again and that’s how I learned how to back up and I used to pick a hard tight spot too so maybe that’s what he is doing.

Moses thats the hard part...how to come in on a curve? How do you do that it seems most places never have enough space to come in on curve or newbies dont know how to imagine the line or the curve

..I think that's what makes intermodal so hard compared to other types of trucking jobs..very tight backing spots and lots of backing every day. I'm assuming this is why it's so difficult for new cdls to do intermodal.

Yes this happen to me at first when shortly working in intermodal. My tandem tires were at 40' so when I was backing i was focusing on my wheels rather than looking at the back of the trailer . The delay is quite noticeable. I tried with my tandem wheels all the way to the back and this way I could drive the trailer with accuracy .

Grettings moses hope you are doing well...great explanation. Space is very inportant when backing a trailer. But also position. He had space but not a good position.

It's a advance thanks to you. I want to ask you two things, for 90 degree angle, how many feet the tail and trailer should keep distance? The second is for 45 degree angle the should keep how many feet distance?

Honestly speaking I don’t know because I just look at it and decide based on the space I have. I’m not good at measurements

Thr worst part of intermodal is how no one else cares about parking their container straight, so the lots are a hot mess.

Now that you said it I realize you may be right. I see more containers parked bad than other trailers at customer locations. In the rail though other trailers park very bad too. I guess because they’re not used to rail parking.
