How to backpack in the Maldives - as cheap as possible

Is it possible to backpack in the Maldives? Can I survive a week for less than 1000 dollars? The answer to both are yes.
Here's my travel guide to doing the Maldives on a shoestring, visiting some great islands and enjoying paradise without going bankrupt, reaching paradise from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Ultimate one week itinerary. Featuring footage from Malé, Gulhi, Maafushi, Thulhagiri, Colombo and some more.
Anwering questions like: How expensive is the Maldives, how to travel cheap, backpacking Maldives on a budget, best and cheapest islands, what to do, is alcohol illegal, how to find alcohol, is it safe for travel and tourists.
The trip was made winter 2018 to 2019.

The Maldives is opening its borders to all global travelers from July 15 -- no Covid-19 tests, quarantines or additional fees required.

I didn’t know Malé was unappealing. Staying in a resort there is to die for! I’ve noticed most resorts don’t offer all-inclusive packages that means you’re stuck eating in their restaurants and getting room service or are there ways to still go around from resort to islands? Yes, Malé is only a one nighter, if you want to get a sense of real life. I’d personally say you’re getting away cheaper without the all inclusive package ... but that could just be me making friends with the bartender 😂

Hello, can you just plan a visit to Thulhagiri Resort just to stay there some hours without actually booking a room? If yes how much did it cost and from where you buy it?

Hello there! =) I think you are so funny ! I love the video and the many tips! When you took only breakfast and dinner on that resort island... will you get mineral water for free inbetween? I guess there is no shop to buy water there? Or did you bring mineral water from supermarket of maafushi to the resort island? Also another question : beside doing many activities on the resort island. where you hungry between breakfast and dinner? I am consindering if you should take a full board package . thanks for sharing =)

greentealover: Thank you so much for your kind compliments! Yes, mineral water is complimentary and they acctually also got a small shop. I was also lucky enogh to get a bargain buy for 12 beers under the table by the bartender!

@nani miranda As mentioned by Swedish Gringo, Gulhi, Maafuhi, Vaavu Atoll has a ferry route. Also Ukulhas, Mathiveri Rasdhoo. Check out transport.mtcc.com.mv/ for the islands in the different ferry routes.

WHY THE HECK DOES YOUR DESCRIPTION SAY LESS THAN $100 PER WEEK IF YOU REALLY SPENT OVER $800? FURTHERMORE, IM SURE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE THAN HALF OF WHAT YOU SPENT ON TWO PEOPLE IF ONLY ONE PERSON WENT ALONE. NO WONDER YOU HAVE SUCH A LOW VIEW COUNT - THIS VIDEO DESERVES PERHAPS 12 VIEWS TOTAL.
