One additional tip. Dont go up in too much angle. It will backside lipslide instead. Learned that the hard way.

I knew I recognized this guy when I watched his fakie disaster video. Then I watched this and realized... it's the vancouver carpenter! Not only did you teach me how to mud and tape but also skate! What can't you do?

The moment you said “backside powerslide” I was like fuck... and I landed my first one straight after, didn’t have to watch the rest 😂

Awesome! They are actually such a simple trick but you always get points for doing them.

Great trick tip Ben! Super well explained! Specially the part about popping into the trick instead of sliding into it and the shoulder lag while your head looks to where you're going 👌🏼will do that! Loved it. Great video Ben! 😁😎

Thank you for this (and all your other content). I finally locked backside disasters this week and they feel, as you say, way easier than they seem when you're getting up to them. It actually started because we were all working on our backside smiths in transition at the park and I accidentally popped one into a lip slide and was like, woah, that was just disaster. So then we were all doing that and everything you say in this video is really helpful as to the feel of the thing.

As a street skater myself it took me a while to learn how to do tricks properly in transition. It helps to remember that all of these tricks were invented long before people were doing proper flatground ollies.

bs disasters are all scoop. Your advice on feet to shoulders applies to my understanding of bigspins. You gotta open up those shoulders and scoop. As long as the feet, hips, shoulders and head are on course to meet back up with each other, have faith and go for it.

I first learned to roll in to get the confidence to get my back trucks over the coping. Then got the backside 180 really down. Now I almost got the BS Disaster down.

Would it be possible to olly straight up... then backside 180 late... then land and do a LATE BACKSIDE 180 disaster?

Great great tutorial. I have only skated street so any tricks like this are hard. Can you teach more vert tricks please? And are you supposed to ollie on any vert tricks?
@bendegros
@bendegros 6 жыл бұрын
I believe you can do almost any basic trick on transition without ollieing except for airs on low transition. Noseslides, crooked grinds and nosegrinds however look better with an ollie into them.

I have backslash/edgers down so hard to the point I can do them on 12ft crust pool coping but I literally can't do a back D on a 2ft noping ramp to save my life. My issue seems to be opposite of most, I "under rotate" and end up in a nose crook basically every time, or a bs Smith usually. Sometimes just plain outside the whole ramp. Any tips on making sure you're body doesn't go over the top of the coping and staying "inside" the ramp?

Try scooping them little bit earlier. I had similar problem and ended up in noseblunts. Start doing the motion earlier and you should be good. Good luck mate!

My problem is that my front foot is never on the nose. Coming back in is wonky because my front foot always ends up in the middle of the board and I have to scootch it up to get back into the quarterpipe. I can get into the disaster well enough but it's the getting back in that gets me. guess i just gotta keep practicing it
