I'm in Toronto. I was just offered a free upgrade to iPhone 6 from my old 4S from my service provider. There's a $20 reconnection fee. I wasn't sure how to, or, if I could actually restore everything. Once I watched your video and followed your example I realized that my phone's been saving to iCloud all this time. About your video: You speak well and in a concise manner. Your tone and tempo are perfect for a teacher/instructor. I was quite nervous about my decision to upgrade or not, but of all the videos I watched it was yours that convinced me to accept my service provider's offer. A free upgrade to iPhone 6 just sounds right, since I've been with my provider for more than 15 years.

However, no matter which way we choose, there is a disadvantage that we can't selectively choose the data we want to transfer to our new iPhone but all of information from iTunes or iCloud backup. Earlier today I used the "Reset All Settings" feature to clear all my settings and personalization on my iPhone 6. Does backing up to iTunes save simple things like ringtones/wallpaper settings, app preferences (notifications, location services), etc.? I backed up before I did the reset and I'm now hoping to undo the changes.

My old 5s never did a back up in 109 weeks, but before that it was fine when going from iPhone 4 - 5s. Will it still be the same with me keeping my apps?

does the data ( like the usage of the data ) transfer from your old phone to the new phone? or do you get a whole new start ith the dtata if you backup?

you can use linux (i use mint) to back up photos through the standard file explorer(I wasn't able to do this in windows)

If you're upgrading to an iPhone 5c you would have to set up as a new phone install iOS 8 eight and then reset the iPhone, since it runs iOS 7 and it's not compatible with restoring your data.
