Great advice, for sure. I'm bad about having the lights on too many hours a day, and I really like feeding my fish, so algae was getting serious. It was the nasty brown kind, coating my Anubias leaves and choking out it's competition. I cleaned the glass, wiped down the leaves, turned up the filtration, cut out the lights a few hours a day, and rooted some pothos vines to pull out excess nutrients. It worked. It is funny how little things make such a big difference.

Great video thanks! Don’t forget sunlight too. One of my tanks gets sun on one side. Lights are on timers. Green hair algae is only where sun hits tank. It’s not terrible though so I leave it mostly. The sun helps the plants on that side actually too

nice vid, great tips but I think u forgot to mention water flow? I'v noticed in my tanks that the water flow can play a big part with algae
@2RILLz

can you please elaborate? more water flow = less algae?
@joulesabagel9417
@joulesabagel9417 4 жыл бұрын
@@2RILLz lack of adequate waterflow can cause dead-spots where a lack of circulation can increase pockets of anaerobic bacteria and other contaminants to multiply algae is also very adept at multiplying in stagnant water. The Red Tide in Florida was attributed to a marine type of red algae that was dominant because it had high heat and high carbon dioxide it killed fish and was poisonous to human skin causing an inflammatory response.

@@joulesabagel9417 wow, thats really weird. In front of my HOB output the staghorn algae really just killed al the plants near there, but tat the back end theres barely any, and it looks like the flows not so great over there

My standard 20 gallon tank has been set up for four years The only algae I have in my tank is spot algae and it’s only on my big rocks Grown over it too where it looks like grass I have 100s of trumpet snails and I had a huge colony of Ramshorn snails but all of them died off except for one and I also have one Amano shrimp 💯🐠🌱🐌 🌱🦐🌱💙🔥

hi. I have lots of plants in my tank, and recently I've seen almost a white hair like algae on my plants and wood. Tank is not stocked yet because I just finished cycling. Do you think I do too much light? I do 6-7 hours of light a day.

I am battling Green water… Had it Before, cut back on feeding and it Went away. A month later it is back again, and I Think it had to do with dying plant material getting stuck in the corners, so am trying to get better flow in the water so it gets pushed up into the filter more, and also am doing Daily maintenance until it looks less green. As long as my fish looks healthy I will keep doing this and hope for the best. Is this what you'd recommend I do? Or anyone got another suggestion for me? Test results are all coming back good within a good parameter, but I do have nitrates in the tap water so its a constant battle with that lol

Are diatoms a sign of an unbalanced tank? Will they compete with plants? I have quit a bit of brown algae-- getting my first plants soon. Tank has been up for a couple months. Will the plants struggle because of the diatoms? Thanks.

One thing I have found is that anubias really doesn't like direct light. Talking to a few people, the only time they say they've never had algae issues with anubias in direct light, even high light, is in shrimp tanks, because they're constantly cleaning every surface. I've also almost given up on my ludwigia repens. I'm growing alternanthera reineckii mini and scarlet temple, but the ludwigia's lower leaves always look gross and eventually fall off for me. Even my staurogyne porto velho is creeping only after two weeks after planting, but this damned ludwigia! I'm starting to wonder if I just got some bad plants from the fleabay seller :(
