What does it mean to be a "forward singer" or to have "forward placement"? How do you know if you're actually practicing forward singing correctly? In this lesson, I explain this concept plainly and share a simple way to tell if you're experiencing the most forwardness possible!

Actually in classical singing, particularly the old Italian style, we have “singing in the masque,” which is just another way of saying forward singing.

What a GREAT technique Chris for all the reasons you explain. The biggest bonus for me is that I now have an antidote to chronic mouth, jaw and tongue tension. Feeling the water vibrate was like a sonic bath for my mouth, though dribbling till I got the hang of it wasn't a good look :) Once I've switched on all the nerve receptors and pathways I reckon this will work for me as a virtual exercise as well. Biggest thankyou.

I have an idea for a lesson! Background vocals! I sing lead in one of my bands, and I sing background in an 80's band in which I play lead guitar. I have to sing higher than the lead vocalist like Michael Anthony does (did) in Van Halen. Some advice on techniques for singing like Michael Anthony or the Damn Yankees would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure a lot of musicians would benefit from it, as many background vocalists are not the "strong" singers like the lead vocalist, but often have to sing some challenging parts! Your lessons and demonstrations are great, thank you!

Hey Chris, love your videos, finding them super helpful. It would be interesting to see you talk about Mikael Akerfeldt, the singer of Opeth. He does these vicious growls but also does some silky smooth clean vocals. Check out their earlier stuff if you're interested, for example the songs "The Leper Affinity," or "Bleak". Keep it up! (Edit) "Ghosts of Perdition" is another great Opeth song for showing off varying vocal styles.

Hello Chris! First, let me apologize for posting this comment under a couple of your videos but it's veeery important to me and I've been looking for an answer to this question for years and am inhumanly frustrated so I really wanted your attention 😅 I know that you usually don't take requests but could you make a video about what I think is a really important topic?: Early vs Late briding and how to make your mixed voice beefier? (I know that you made videos on how to make your mix beefier but it's not exactly what I'm talking about - I also mean tone wise) A perfect example of this is a song sang by two different vocalists of Iced Earth(notice the very obvious difference in tone when they sing "the blood is the life" - Barlow sings it much closer to how Chris Cornell would sing it and Stu Block seems to be using more of a Halford/Falsetto approach) This is the beefy one(Barlow): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kMVyaKiX2M7af2Q.htmlsi=XqBwnngp34ivQq7N And this is the weaker one(Block) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdVpbKlelqrGf58.htmlsi=hrjRH2CcWDXwapCw I don't think it solely comes down to their voice types as it is evident that Barlow puts in a lot more of his chest voice Almost like reaches down for it I also think that Cornell did it too hence his vocals had that "weight" that's very hard to replicate If you or anyone has any insight on how to do it please feel free to let me know Thank you

OMG I was doing this on accident and I wondered my lip felt so weird. I am so new to mixed and resonance. I never felt none of these sensations before. I can just feel where everything is at. My lip was hella weird and I had to stop LMAO. Even though I had voice lessons and sang since I was 16. I never felt these sensations in my life tell I just let go and stopped caring about shit. I think a lot it has to do with trapped emotions, being scared, and thinking about notes. So a tingly vibration is safe and I was getting so much anxiety from it. I thought I damaged my voice but I could speak fine and nothing hurts?! It also feels kind of good but it still worried the fuck outta me. I am getting use to it now. How long does the resonance lasts and also is it safe to feel resonance while you listen to music from other singers? I know where everything is at and there are even resonators in the back of your neck I think.
