This might be EXACTLY what you expect it to be, or not AT ALL what you think it should be. Either way, I'm hoping there are some little tips in here that you might not have ever thought about on your journey to becoming a full-time artist!

Interesting non-cliche tips, certainly something to think about. As a multi-passionate person I also find the niche approach to be too restricting, which doesn't help at all in the long run or makes you stuck before you even start.

100%! It took me yearssss to realize that multi-passionates simply cannot niche and that is more than okay. 😂 I'm so glad some of this resonated. 🫶

Id love to hear more about how you got started on upwork! I want to use my fulltime job to pour into my dream of being a full time artist/content creator. Up until this point I'd been working animation jobs but it was really labour intensive and draining creatively and i had a lot of difficulty landing consistent work so I was always stressed about getting my next gig. I've been wanting to pivot and marketing sounds like a potentially interesting avenue but idk how to get started and would love some advice ❤

Oohhhh, I wonder if I should make a video about it. I totally hear you about getting exhausted -- I've felt the exact same way. Getting started on Upwork isn't hard -- it just takes consistency, which can get hard if you don't feel like you're seeing results. I highly suggest setting controllable goals when you're doing this -- instead of saying "I want to get 1 client by [this date]," saying "I want to send 5 proposals a day for the next 3 weeks." You can't control the first one, you can control the second. Instead of focusing on the goal, focus on the systems you create. A KZfaq channel that helped me a lot was www.youtube.com/@MyNameIsDeya, specifically her playlist all on freelancing (linked below). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8iCo5yGzdW0mHU.html Let me know if this helps!

I really resonate with everything you say about using your creativity for others. I’ve been wanting to be a full time painter/illustrator but the path isn’t particularly clear, and it’s hard to find jobs that make enough to support while giving me enough time to work on my art. I like your concept of a more focused path with an intentional job. Could you give some clear ideas for a supporting job, besides digital marketing? And perhaps some advice on how to get into that sort of work?

I am so excited for your journey as a full-time painter/illustrator to unfold! When you say supporting job, are you talking about a part-time career while you're growing your illustration work on the side? There are a ton of other ways to make money online, but what I like about digital marketing is that it's proven to have the fastest return for me so I can work remotely and use my natural creative talents to get paid! In essence, I could have started by selling digital products or something, but that requires a skill/knowledge, audience, and a general knowledge of running a business, all of which I learned from working in digital marketing (if that makes sense). For me, the right digital marketing job (full-time or part-time) helped spare my energy (because it was remote, as well as something I was alreally pretty natural at even if I had a bit of a learning curve) and it was something I was naturally good at. But maybe that's not for you. Maybe when you follow that ikigai model, you find something that's in-person and non-digital marketing but doesn't drain you. I think the key is something that doesn't drain you too much so you have energy to build your own business. Which will naturally be something that -- - You're good at - The world needs - Has the ability to make money ...And then you can eventually shift it to something you *love* (painting/illustrating) when the time is right. Let me know if that makes sense! I hope I answered some of your questions but please ask more if it didn't! lol

@@lovevioletgaze sorry for the late reply! Yes, I’m looking for a part time job that will sustain me while I build my art career! The hard part for me is finding something that makes me enough to sustain me but still gives me enough time to work on art and doesn’t drain all of my energy. Mainly I’m just looking for some suggestions!

@@lunefaeriie For me, I'd think about whether I'm an introvert and extrovert. An introvert gets energy from being alone, so that might be virtual assistant jobs that require lots of independent work, a delivery driver who does work primarily on their own, etc. An extrovert gets energy from being with other people, so that might be a customer-facing role, front desk, things that require person-to-person interaction. Maybe make a list based on the Ikigai concept and see what kinds of jobs might fit in that role. Ultimately, I think you know your skills best! :)

@@lovevioletgaze thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my comments. I’m definitely extremely introverted and have been struggling with doing retail jobs the past four years. I’ll take your suggestions into consideration!!
