Great video brian. Here's a video idea. I dig on utilities every single gas lines cable water lines etc. I also haft to go do repairs on cables all the times from people who don't properly dig for them when going over them in a trench or spotting them for a drill shot. Maybe you could make video giving people tips and tricks how to dig on top of utilities I could see that doing well.

I actually learned a lot of this on a dragline, by making those rookie mistakes and having the real operators correct me 😂 Same thing though, booming too high, having the drag cable pulled in to much so the bucket was “curled” up too much, then when when I released the drag brake the bucket slammed instead of realeasing it easily, then coming back over the canal with the bucket too high…..all of it, all the mistakes and still learning 😂 Same principle here. Everything you’re explaining is right on the money. Being efficient with your time is key. Thanks for what you guys do.

# 1 thing is, Know what your trying to achieve. Ie; start with the end in mind. Then there's, fill the bucket, don't needlessly pull full buckets through the dirt, if its full disengage from the face and begin to lift/slew towards the dump point. Etc etc One good thing to do is, ALWAYS know exactly where your next bucket is going to come from. There's a trick to getting back to the engagement point at the dig face again but it's another story for another day. And don't top out the hydraulic cylinder rod and ffs, don't dig or jack machine with any rod on its stop... That is #1 rookie tell tale. As well as leaving a full bucket of material ip in the air with the revs not at high. And best Tip for anyone trying to improve proficiency.... DONT TRY AND BE 'FASTER' Just keep an eye on the bucket and always try and be perfectly smooth and precise with all your movements. (Which comes from precise lever inputs and timing, which develops subconsciously in time if you just watch the bucket....) Once all your movements are smooth and precise, and you are able to mentally stay a step ahead of yourself, guess what..... You NATURALLY and 'effortlessly' become much faster. *NEVER try to be fast. Always try be smooth and precise, speed will come naturally.
