Let's just ignore the irony of posting this video two weeks late, ELL OH ELL OH ELL OH ELL. If you struggle with showing up on time to places, this is the video for you. I know being chronically tardy can get into your head and make you feel shitty, but it is fixable and I'm here to help! Hopefully!
I didn't re-watch this video before I rendered it so if there are any glaring errors, WHOOPS.

Thank you. In tears, this is sooo me. Always a New Years resolution....then I'm late. You are spot on regarding: Think you plan enough time. Suprised at "how late" it is once you get in the car. End up rushing and feeling bad, embarassed, guilty etc. You have encouraged me. I will try again with your formula. Thanks!

Chronically tardy person here! I know Doctor's offices hate me because I walk IN at my appointment time, not 5 minutes early to sign in. My lateness tends to come from thinking I can squeeze in one more work task or getting stuck on a phone call. Or remembering 3 more things I want to have with me and gathering them up. I'm actually really organized and people commend how I almost always have the things I mean to have.. well I'm using the minutes I need to be on-time to remember all that shit. But at the end, I agree - there is ONE administrative meeting I make a point to be ON TIME for.. and I have to leave 1 hour early.. or there is a good chance I will be late.

Yeah, the gathering-stuff-at-the-last-minute struggle is real.

I think the main reason I'm always late is that I *haaate* to sit around my house in my "dressy" clothes: they're uncomfortable, I feel too hot, I don't want to get covered in cat hair ;) ... so I wait until the last minute to get dressed, which means I wait until the last minute to shower, so then I'm rushing when I get out of the shower and usually go places with wet hair and I apply my makeup in the car on the way. Which I actually don't care about, but it drives my family crazypants! But now I have an air conditioner, so maybe I can start getting ready early for a change! Thanks for the tips!

As someone who learned early in life how to get places early/on time, this is an interesting and valuable insight into the way things work for people on the other side. I definitely understand better why it happens for some people. (I will also admit that I'm getting worse about being 100% on time to some things, these days, but it's usually just for things I don't actually want to do, like going to work. :P)

As a typically-on-time person, do you think my advice is sound?

Yeah, definitely! The way you broke it down sounds like how I go through the "getting ready and leaving" process. Like, on work days, my bare-bones routine breaks down like so: 1. It takes about 7 minutes to drive from my house to my work, if there's little to no traffic. > I need to be in the car and going no less than 10 minutes before I have to be at work, in case there's heavier traffic. 2. It takes me between 5 and 10 minutes to get dressed and brush my teeth. > I need to start getting dressed no less than 10 minutes before I need to leave. 3. I need to make sure I have ready anything extra I need to take with me, including lunch. Time varies. > Conclusion: I need to start getting ready for work about 20-30 minutes before I am scheduled to start. Sometimes I'll start earlier so that I can do other stuff while I'm going through my routine, like listening to youtube while I take my time getting dressed or something. And if I'm going somewhere that's not part of a routine, especially somewhere I've never been, I'll add in more buffer time to account for mishaps. So I think you nailed the workings of it!

Awesome, thank you! Yeah, it took me most of my adult life to figure all that out, lol.

You are a life-saver. The way you explained everything made perfect sense, and knowing that you were once a chronically late person gives me so much hope for my own situation. I’m so excited to try this! First, though, I’ll have to rewatch this at least twice, making sure it sinks in... Thank you so much!

I’m always on time technically BUT, I always procrastinated leaving because I HATED waiting! Idk why, but having to wait for something to start, or someone to arrive makes me so annoyed, even resentful 😕. I really had to learn to humble myself and be happy (even if I feel inconvenienced).
