Roy and Chrom have amazing burst and I think that was the most important point to mention. A good Roy or Chrom won't rush in, but play and safely poke/swing at you just outside of their effective range, which is greater than most other fighters because if the disjoint. Constantly running away tells them they can just go nuts on you since you're only giving them stage control and an inherent advantage. Even if you can throw projectiles, their speed makes it really risky as they will close the gap very fast in neutral or worse in disadvantage. So saving projectiles for your advantage state is the best way to go. They excel in whiff punishing because of the effective range and mobility they have, both on and off stage. PLACING your moves appropriately to limit their movement options is better than trying to trade with them or beat them out head on, their brawler stats with swordie advantage makes it way too risky. Stay calm and don't rely on any specific defensive options, their grab game, oos, tech chase and overall punish game are all very strong and they will have no problems with relying on any one option if it works. They have monstrous endlag, so you will need to be trying to run around just outside of their effective range, baiting their swing in neutral while not trying to commit to a laggy option before they do. A good Roy or Chrom will abuse their grounded pokes as they are very hard to punish, so watch for when they take to the air or poke with a specific pattern. A lot will hit your shield twice and run away in my experience. Hope this added advice from a Roy main helps! If you need more, check out Art of Roy by IzAw. His breakdown is pretty thorough :)

Chrom and roy does not struggle against projectiles.... If you fight bad ones then yeah, cuz most chrom and roy players dont know what to do against projectiles *Online that is*, the solution is simple, parry or attack the projectile with your disjoint, it beats it out, unless its a projectile that deals significant damage like Charge Shot, then its disjoint priority is ignored. But you still have parry and their broken mobility. Parrying a projectile gives you more frames to use and dash in to take more space, the less space the projectile player has to play with, the more predictable they are at using them and the less defense options they have, its a matter of being patient and finding the opportunity to punish the opponent. I.e. High-Top lvl of play essentially. They are not at all weak to projectiles. A character like Meta knight is actually destroyed by projectiles and he has to resort to air camping to win them because even parrying hardly helps. 5:26 no, you can just not be a noob and just overshoot or call out their defensive habit, this is literally just adaptation, its not a char specific weakness.... 5:46 Good chroy users dont throw out laggy moves like that, they whiff fair and dtilt and jab at distances where their opponents characters cant punish but make it seem like they have enough time to. Side B is used to punish a spotdodge habit, and its used to call out dash back habits, and defensive habits in general by overshooting an aerial variation. 5:51 fair on shield is safe, you have enough time to dash back, jump away, call out grab and punishing with jab afterwards, call out spotdodge and punishing with fsmash, you can do landing fair dtilt fsmash because dtilt is also safe on block since he's crouching already and can jump away because frame advantage, and fsmashing after dtilt beats out grab oos attempts because chroy moves slightly backwards while doing fsmash. It's a commitment yes, but no character in this game has 3 or 5 moves that are not commital anyway. Its necessary to figure out what your opponent likes to do in those situations. 6:01 Roy having poor air mobility... What?! He's like top 20 in the game in that area, its the reason why he's so threatening in the air. Bruh. At least you mentioned that their recovery is easily exploitable, well that would be the case if they were also bad at mixing up. Chrom can mixup height distances of up b and horizontal distances, if you go super low and up b, even charge shot misses, it also beats out any counter that isnt jokers arsene, if you go slightly high above ledge, it beats out counters again that isnt joker arsene, if you super high and up b, nothing beats it out unless again, its an arsene joker counter, and reason why is because arsene joker counter is the only counter in the game that is not only big enough to cover ledge below but also the fastest counter coming out as early as frame 3, and most counters are frame 10 and up. Chrom can also mixup with air dodges because his air mobility like roys is amazing. But yes recovery can be exploitable if you cover high outcomes and then low with conditioning. the 2 examples you used in 6:10 of them being gimped are both bad player misplays, u can tech and regrab ledge right after on the charizard one, only bad players wont be ready to tech, and on the sonic one, the player literally just did a laggy move in the air after being hit, meaning he expected to grab ledge and getup attack, which again is a bad player move, in these situations you have be reactive not preemptive. 6:26 bad chrom player, to beat out that situation he can just air dodge to ledge or go for low recovery since fully charged zelda down b always strikes below first to then above, giving chrom the time necessary to recover properly. 6:35 cringy... but regardless, he didnt adjust to the bomb direction and airdodge grabbed the bomb while grabbing ledge, you can also slap the bomb away, he also used his double jump already which was really bad since chrom needs it to have the best recovery mixup potential. 7:36 what do i think of them? Well with tourney results and their absurd broken tools in neutral, and oppressive advantage state, top 15 in the game. Roy's probably better because of recovery, but not by a lot. Chrom is better at neutral tho, and has no losing matchups, its just his disadvantage is poor, but he's a fast faller so even then, he has more mixups and can land easier than most chars. Realistically, if you want to beat chrom and roy, you have to punish what they do after they do their safe move, take advantage of their poor recovery, parry their swords because they have the same timing everytime, and cover their player habit tendencies. I.e. a lot of chroys like to mash on the opponent so you can wait for their laggy moves i.e. Roy does fair, you cant punish it, but after fair he does jab, or ftilt, u can punish that instead. Or some Chroys like to play dash back heavy. I.e. Chroy fairs, u cant punish it, but then they dash backwards and lose stage control, capitalize on that, overshoot your moves , and take control of center. That's pretty much it guys, hope this was helpful and i cleared some of the misinformation spread. Elite smash is ok at best, but if you go to actual tournament events, no one plays like the footage above, unless they just started playing smash for the first time ever.

I hate this game why is Cloud's Limit Cross Slash (you know the move he can only use once before having to charge it up again later) weaker than Double-Edge Dance. The move that Roy has instant access to. I swear to god Roy is broken. Everything kills, everything is safe on shield, and he has a kill confirm that he can spam on shield without having to think because it's safe.

I want to point this out since Roy is one of my mains for anyone still struggling with this matchup and complaining that this video isn’t helpful. Roy and Chrom’s up b’s do not snap the ledge. If they up b without spacing it you can have more than 2 frames to punish them especially if you have a disjoint that can hit below the ledge. Or you can attempt a down air by the ledge as they recover. They have the 4th best airspeed in the game, but that unfortunately is the only shred of mixup they have, their double jumps are tiny and if they get sent a reasonable horizontal distance they will be forced to recover in a linear fashion or die altogether. Blazer’s threat bubble is only in front of him for the most part. Making it rather easy to spike or intercept from other sides. Chrom’s is dangerous but has no armor when he’s flipping in the air. Chrom is also way more likely to die off a single offstage touch too making it all the more rewarding. They are fastfalling middleweights of average height making them rather easy to combo. Their best out of shield options are frame 9 and 10 respectively. While Roy’s does have frame 4 armor, so long as you avoid it both of their up b’s are rather punishable. Which somewhat limit their response to pressure. Also if either of them jab on your shield you can grab them in between and double-edge dance is super unsafe if they commit.

I think it would of been worth mentioning that you can counter Chrom's up-B at the ledge.
@Glizle
@Glizle 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on how counter is being used, it you jump off stage and counter its, the best way to gimp both chars actually. Reason being is, if you're not joker arsene, your counter on stage at ledge doesnt matter, chrom can go at the lowest point of ledge with up b and ur counter will miss, unless ur joker arsenes counter, in which case, no matter how u up b, if timed right, that counter wins the exchange everytime because its the biggest in the game and its also the fastest in the game. Chrom can also go do a high up b above ledge and counters will miss, unless as i mentioned with joker. Only bad chrom players who don't know this information will always get hit by any kind of counter. Hope this helped you as well, so now you have information to help you exceed in edge guarding them. Chrom especially, if you hit them from up b, always go for an edge guard, because they most likely dont have their double jump anymore, and not punishing them after can let them have another shot at recovering.

This video was not helpful. I don't know why people think his recovery is bad. I play Byleth and I literally can't challenge it with anything except up b. But that only works at a specific angle. I literally tried everything in training mode and tried watching some sets (and Leo literally doesn't challenge it unless using up b) and this video didn't even show how to edgeguard except with some very specific cases being if you have an item or if you are sonic. What are you to do if you are anyone else? Also, you spent like 2 seconds on weaknesses and like 70% of the video on strengths. Please don't tell me he has that little weaknesses.
@CipherKnighto
@CipherKnighto 7 ай бұрын
Their recovery is terrible. I’m not sure about your level of knowledge now as this comment is old but if you’re struggling so hard with assumably Chrom’s recovery just know he literally loses his armor as soon as he’s at the peak of it. If it’s that deep if you send them horizontally too far out they either won’t make it back or have to recover in a super linear way. They’re also fastfaller middleweights of average height making them easy to combo. Roy is a top 10 also and Chrom only lags behind bc of his recovery. Ofc they have little weaknesses, that’s why you have to learn how to exploit their awful recoveries and just gfg
