I needed 15 more hours of clinical to graduate on time when my preceptor wouldn’t allow students anymore in April of 2020, but thankfully I had a family medicine doc friend who let me be a fly on the wall with my n95 for 2 days so I could graduate on time! I still refer patients to him, I will always be thankful!❤ I start my palliative care NP job soon (yay credentialing lol)! I dabbled in other fields first, but I know this is where my heart is!💜 Thank you Liz for all the great videos!

I’ve been a Hospice and Palliative NP for 5 years, inpatient and outpatient, hospice bedside RN for 7 years. I have been searching for videos just like this and even contemplated making a video myself about palliative medicine! Thank you for having this discussion about a widely misunderstood specialty! Great video!!

LIZZZZ!!!!! Thank you SO MUCH! I am graduating NEXT WEEK with my MSN for FNP and I’ve been beggin online NP influencers to help me find someone in palliative/hospice to talk more about this job, as it’s my dream job. I was Med Surg for years and recently quit to get hospice/palliative experience before graduating. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I LOVED this! You rock!

Thank you Liz for this video. I am a Palliative NP and have worked for both inpatient and outpatient settings. Amanda explained it very well and it’s seems she’s been doing a great job 👏 I love the resources she provided as well. I think it’s extremely important in PC to be well versed in disease process and sometimes in the inpatient world this can be very tricky. Interested to see your templates Amanda because my charting is so long 😂

Palliative and hospice care is so under utilized and under appreciated. I was an inpatient Oncology RN and we used palliative and hospice care all the time. I hope to be able to move into either specialty when I finish graduate school. Thanks for such a great interview Liz!

I love this!! I’m finishing up my BSN degree this year and unfortunately we had never touched on it until the LAST day. However after learning more about it, a great interest sparked!! So many people think of death when it comes to palliative care. It is EXTREMELY effective for those with chronic conditions as it’s focus is to control symptoms of that condition. It helps you to live feeling the best you can, for as long as you can.

Thank you!! It’s near impossible to shadow these days, and I graduate nursing school in May. I am not a nurse tech, nor do I work or volunteer in a medical setting, and it’s wonderful to hear from people in their respective fields. A day in the life so to speak. Thank you!!!!

I have been an ACNP in a 13-bed SICU. I am looking into branching out to Palliative Care in the future. Thank you for your honest conversation regarding this underutilized aspect of patient & family care. I will be starting a DNP in Palliative Care in the Fall. And I am quite excited for this opportunity to learn more about palliative care. Thanks!

I don’t think Amanda ever answered if she prescribes medicine! In Canada, my grandma received palliative care at the end when we found out she was going to pass away! My mom loved learning and seeing how much it helped her mom pass away without pain!

I haven't made it through the whole video yet, so this question may be answered later, but: In terms of being a palliative care nurse, how do you prepare YOURSELF to have those difficult conversations? It must be hard for you as well. Thank you for making these videos, it's helping me get an understanding of different jobs that I can think about for the future
@NurseLiz

I haven’t been a palliative care nurse but in terms of difficult conversations I’ve had I found that acknowledging with the patient that this conversation would be difficult and saying that out loud, and explaining why you want to have it made it easier for you and them, and then it was less awkward as well, so much less emotionally taxing. If you aren’t trying to beat around the bush, and are having a really frank conversation, it is MUCH less emotionally draining than dancing around a hard topic
