I recommend downloading "Delayed Gratification" It's an awesome extension that allows you to enter website names you want to block, but rather then block them they just put a wait time on them. So I enter "Reddit.com" and whenever I try to go to the website it takes 30 seconds, so I just quit out and don't go to reddit. Works really well!

Try to gradually replace KZfaq with other tasks. They don't have to be menial or a chore, just something that helps to lengthen your attention span. Simply put, KZfaq is the ultimate destroyer of attention span; with its multitudes of tailored (and often curated) content that you can click through. Even something like reading a book helps. Of course - keep time for channels and videos that you truly enjoy to watch, just keep it to a minimum. My habit of endlessly clicking on the next video nearly cost me my future.

Nothing new under the Sun. This is the same crap that the boomers sold in the 80s. "Productivity!" "Goals!" "Positive affirmations!" "Achieve your dreams!" "How you ask?" Just follow/buy my system of Rah! Rah! Rah!.......blah.blah.blah. It is just repackaged for the Millennial Generation. It was nauseating then. It is nauseating now.
@Driftuner
@Driftuner 5 жыл бұрын
No its not true. Being productive and overworking are very distinct things. If you are overloading yourself to the point of burnout you are most probably not being productive. What IS true, is that people need to stop mistaking "productivity" with just "trying to solve all my problems and achieve all my dreams at once". Ppl are addicted, mostly due to how fast information flows now a days, into thinking that they need to get all their desires done asap. They see someone being rich, or working out a lot, or traveling a lot, or studying a lot or opening up a company, and then they set all these goals to themselves all at once, while they arent even disciplined enough to wake up on a schedule or eat healthier. I know this from experience because i used to be like that as well as every other millenial that i know. Now a days i live by the following sentence: "if you dont focus on SOMETHING, you dont master ANYTHING". Its as simple as that. We are so used to be overly informed about everything in the world that we easily forget to actually master something. Example? Just look at how many YT channels you are probably subscribed to. Ever since i changed my mind about what productivity actually means, my life has changed drastically. Now i work 10-12 hours a day (as a development engineer, so no easy "mindless" job, very stressful btw) and when i get home i still study for 3 hours every day. Plus im married. Plus i have 3 hobbies, etc. And am i close to burning out? Far from it...just prioritise and organize. You will be amazed how long 24hrs can be when you are organized and disciplined.
@Fayker
@Fayker 5 жыл бұрын
True, and these "productivity systems" are in place just to make ways to not get distracted or procastinate, something that is a bit of epidemic through the day, its boring to work without a goal or a mindset in place, we get easily distracted for other reason, don't over-burn with productivity goals more than you can reach, people need to set realistic goals. Matt made a video where it hints that get focus on work with 15/30 min timer.. and make a break, until you can make a 1 or 2 hours of continuous work and focus. For me, This is something that im work on, I can't stay focus in a task more than 15 min(it depends on the task), and thats is making me nuts. Even with all these systems in place I feel some anxiety that breaks even the Will of doing it. I think this particular subject is far more deeper than putting platforms to organize your produtivity. the mindset to doing is needed to take care first. I think Matt can make a video about "violation of expectations" When doubt is negativetly confirmed ... and how does that affect us.

Channels like yours and Thomas' are why I get occasional bouts of motivation and productivity. Just like you guys overwork yourself, I am at the opposite end of the spectrum where I just can't get myself to do stuff. I literally achieve nothing in 24 hours for days on end. Idk why. I remove distractions but still achieve little. From what I have noticed it is allllll about consistency in doing small or big meaningful activities daily. And that is my goal for now. Just do as much as possible as consistently as possible.

I've found that setting little systems rather than big goals has helped me a lot. Mostly because you can go through a lot of stress and resentment of yourself if you miss your big goals but you can go on and off with systems without feeling bad about it. Breaking everything down into easy steps the night before has been a game-changer for me too. Example: Go meet some friends in Matts comments and see if they might be interested in subscribing :) consistency is key!

The bigger struggle is understanding when i'm actually redlining too hard and it's having adverse effects on my ability to handle small threats of chaos from outside. email bankruptcy and handling the negativity around my work focus are big takeaways for me.

I fully agree with this. I work days a week at one job (bakery) and 5 days a week at an evening job. Sometimes I’m working 7 days at both jobs and I manage the bakery And act as owner when real owner is away. I am 22. What I’ve found with working this much for 2 years it’s completely failed me. My quality of work isn’t as good as it could be, I don’t sleep, my weight fluctuates, my organization and focus as well as customer service is just fine. Sure I’m hussling, grinding, I just bought three red bulls. I’m making a butt load of money. But I am miserable and trapped for the time being. I am so happy that I don’t need to be more productive. I often wonder what people really achieve by getting up at 3:30am. I am productive only at work for 24hours a week and the rest is all time that I can use however I want it. My life goal isn’t to work as much but to have the freedom to do whatever I want. At the end of the life noone ever said “I wish I would have been more productive”

Great video! It's nice to make sense of what is going on in our heads. It's like a rope that when you get one task put on your shoulders a knot forms, then the second, third, so on so fourth. And before you know it your looking at a giant tangled knotted mess with no idea of what end you should start untangling first.

I went from making a to do list for every minute of my life in the past, to gradually making almost no to do lists. It was a liberating feeling. I managed to do this by decluttering my schedule and setting priorities. My to do list is trying not to remember anything not essential, and doing things as I see them. Your brain will remind you about immediate or urgent things, even if you went to bed and forgot to do them. I realize this system is not for everybody, but it is such a breeze.
