Today, if you want to be songwriter and get far you've got to produce music and work with other producers. You can't start understanding musical structure until you get into a DAW and start working on beats and rearranging instruments. Playing keys or guitar is also a must.

You don't need a daw you just need an instrument or work with another writer that has experience. What do you think they did when Daw's didn't exist?

I don't know where to start learning music... My songs have only existed in my head as melodic poetry. I so truly don't know how to bridge the gap from imagination to reality, or literally where to even start. I'm actually going to copy paste this comment to as many self proclaimed songwriters and teachers in hopes for some clarity and guidance.

Helpfull tip: sit down with somebody who knows how to write a song and can play piano or guitar and hum out and pretty much tell them as much of the song as you can. Also- write down as many things as you can, because you don’t want to forget.

If you're paying artists to reference make sure that they understand that you are the master owner and what they did was work for hire services.

Lmao, you think all music is mind controlling you for the bad? It has an effect on your brain waives yes but if you wanna be a song writer you’ve got to open your mind to how people lay their words out and how they view certain things to put new perspectives into your eyes. They may say something a certain way, something you may have already heard but in a different form.

i’ve been writing music since i was 16 i’m 28 now, i’ve written songs for my wife and a few friends i know it doesn’t sound like much but i can pretty much freestyle a song for any person as long as i’ve heard their style and the way they sing/rap once i digest their tone i can make a song for them. im just curious how i promote this ?

You can do that. It’s called “top-lining”-where you would just create the lyrics/vocal melody. You should work on finding producers or beat makers you like and go from there. Determine whether the relationship would be work-for-hire or a collaboration/partnership at the beginning. Hope this helps.

But what about the first person who made a rap song? Lol they didnt listen to tons of music and learn different structure’s because there werent no rap created cuz they were the first to even start it 😂, and ontop of that if people really did do that to learn there wouldnt be as trash artist out there cuz it seems like these new rappers coming out havnt heard one pac biggie or dmx or a nas song and must never jammed to micheal jackson 😭, u can tell by most these rappers that can actually rap and have good lyricism cuz they grew up on great music but is just living in a today world full of other nonsense that also play a part in they sound and topics in there songs
