I love your honesty about your own experiences and it's always nice to see someone who's able to articulate their thoughts so well. I'm guilty of putting psychologists on a slightly higher pedestal than non-psychologists so it's nice to be reminded that we all struggle. I think you're right about the whole 30 is the new 20 bit. I just turned 30 about a week ago and I realized that I'm only now beginning to get my shit together. My twenties have been the stepping stone for me to reach this stage of self awareness, mindfulness and wisdom.

Thank you! I have to practice what I preach (or as a behaviorist would say model desired behavior) otherwise what's the point? Welcome to your 30s! It's a pretty cool decade :-)

+The Psych Show haha.. That's true. I mean, we all look up to psychologists and behaviorists to actually teach us how to behave positively. And I think as humans, sometimes, it's just hard to do because we forget to slow down... I was terrified of being 30 but now realize that I can't keep being 20 because I am not the same person I was anymore. I've grown too much to not be 30.

+Jules S Word! We're never the same people and every age provides us with a new perspective on life.

It was quite a revelation for me - it's easier to let go of the need to hang on to the familiarity once I realized that. And we're never able to get to where we need to be if we don't keep going and allow our experiences to change and inform our future.

By the way, you should totally do a behind the scenes or bloopers video sometime. I think us fans would love to see that.

Most of my bloopers are me yelling at myself for messing up my lines or yelling at the street for being noisy, but I'll keep the good ones from here on out! :-)

...and that's why I took so long in grad school - the dissertation! Looking back my dissertation made me face a lot of my own anxiety about becoming a psychologist, my ability to write, deal with procrastination, and other stuff. I got a lot of help from friends, colleagues, and professionals throughout the process. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know!

What about becoming an adult with chronic mental illness? Financial independence, controlling my emotions and holding a job sounds like a fantasy to me at this point.

Start small, with one goal, and work to become more independent on that one goal.

I am glad I came across you! I love your presentation and I find your videos to be very helpful. Especially, when I am a poor student who can't afford to see a psychologist. I can't thank you enough!

I am 27 (28 this year),and obsessed about Harry Potter and i got wands, scarf, and even a robe. I walking around at my campus with my griffindor scarf in winter season. My laptop is full of stickers; the big bang theory, cats, qoutes ,dobby: 'dobby is a free elf'. Age is just a number the say... a man who is in his 50's can behave and act older and younger that he is even my professors say they feel younger ('the feeling when they teaches, mentoring and meets a bunch of students in age from 19-30's ). One of the professors i have (he is middle in his 60's ? I think..). He has got my to watch the game of thrones , he has obusly seen my stickers at my laptop during my visit for mentoring and has observed me wear my gryffindorscarf .. then i walking at campus and in libary. He qoutes dumbledore and therion by the way 😁😎 Sorry about my grammar , written English is not my best strength

All fascinating, and generally helpful... but how exactly (at 26, unemployed, and outside of the circles I wish to be in) am I meant to find a mentor?

Volunteering is a great path if you are looking to find a mentor in an area in you currently have limited experience.

I gotta admit, a lot of the 80s styles (and the 80s stylistic vision for the future) are in style again!
