unauthorized backup - I know where I work, we don't give the user admin access (for the most part). the UAC elevation would not work b/c it would prompt for password. If your "backing up" user date, then live in the users space. There are a lot of things you can still do (if your creative enough) by living in the user space and not needing UAC elevation.

You guys needed to add the other cores to your test. I'm sure the two of you don't sport single core i3 and i7 cpus. My system scored 15.69. I typed --> sysbench --test=cpu --cpu-max-prime=20000 --num-threads=4 run. The number of threads pertaining to your core count I believe. =] Shannon's score will improve significantly if she were to do that.

Sorry had to point it out, at 9:08, it was 379 Megabits (Mb) not megabytes (MB).

execution time (avg/stddev): 9.9991/0.00 seconds (max prime number=20,000) on both i7-2760QM and i7-4800MQ CPUs, same result using both 1 thread and 8 threads with the thread options (?). Not optimized for multithreaded operation, I'm guessing.

Isn't Darrens example of dd benchmark only testing write performance? Read performance is often more relevant. Great segment though!

You're welcome. By the way, save yourself lots of headaches and buy supported hardware. I've messed around with this once and it can be a real PITA to get it to work properly. :-) That however was a couple of years ago, don't know the status of it is now.

My beloved Dell Latitude E4300 have a Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 cpu from 2008. It did the same test and was done in 29 sec. I will mail you the output since KZfaq for some reason don't like the formatting. Something about ASCII art.
