I’m a second year and haven’t had much experience with it. What other kind of work have you been doing that you didn’t need to bend conduit? Do you have you apprentice do it? I’m afraid I’ll get ask to do all kinds of bends and not be able to do them so I bought some benders to practice, but conduit is way up in price.
@MountaineerOutdoors
@MountaineerOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Residential you don't use much conduit if any. Yeah conduit is up but if you skip your coffee at the local gas station every morning then by the end of the week you can buy a stick or two of conduit.
@DIRTYCHI3F

@@gustavocasas8654 most of my apprenticeship was industrial and used teck cable over conduit. Most jobs I was on we seldom used pipe and I was just never around it. Recently move been doing commercial and have had to bend a lot of pipe. Just learn a method and stick to it and eventually you’ll get the hang of it.

and the longer the run, the harder it is to pull your wire through 4 90's. I agree, don't go with a full 360 in your run between boxes, I've heard a few electricians that have done it for a while say the same thing about using the 30 degree angle; it's easy to calculate and it definitely makes pulling wire more efficient, and it's all about efficiency! I'm also an IBEW member of the local 1141 in Oklahoma city. I'm a QC commercial Journeyman electrician. I was glad to become a member in March 26th of 2019. I'm glad I joined! We have a big sign in one of our halls that says "right to work is a ripoff". It really is; because it does not look out for the worker! Plus you have people negotiating wages and benefits for you!

This is most helpful after 4 + years off from my practice. I am rusty to say the least. One thing as a follow-up: I was trained to always use pencil to mark conduit on the premise that if somewhere down the road someone paints the conduit, a marker will bleed through whereas pencil won't. That being said, if future painting isn't an issue, and having quite visible black marks isn't either, I don't see why it hurts to use the marker. Thank you again; nicely done tutorial. . .

Excellent video! Great information and presentation. I'd love to see a video explaining how you layout conduit before any bending even takes place. I'm about to take my first stab at conduit while wiring up my pole barn. Do you mount all the boxes first and then run the emt or what? My biggest concern is positioning the emt in the proper order to avoid having to overlap other conduits unnecessarily. Any help you can offer in that area would be greatly appreciated.
@MountaineerOutdoors
@MountaineerOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
So it honestly depends if I mount the box first I would say no do it as you take the conduit into the box. As far as laying it out each job is different for sure. I'd love to do a video like your mentioning but I don't run conduit alot anymore unfortunately.

Nice video - not overly complicated 👍🏽 If you want to take it a step further, you would also need to consider how far away the obstruction is from your last coupling/connector, and account for it + shrinkage in your first line, before making your second line at double the obstruction’s height. Although you might not have an issue with sharpie, it just looks poor on exposed conduit. Pencil can get rubbed off and just delivers a better product for the client. I love this guide though and thanks for taking the time out of your life to make this.

Seems like it will be kind of tight to put a coupling right there. Maybe make a video showing how to bend an offset that passes the obstruction so that we can easily put a coupling on it. Great easy video

I recently installed an outlet on a concrete wall and messed up the measurement to the outlet (short) because I didn’t calculate the 90 degree bend correctly. Would you make a video for that? I would appreciate it.

I didn't see in other videos why you put the first mark on 3 in, can you please tell me? I have a lot of issues with offsets & this helped A LOT. Thanks!

No real reason, it just keeps everything uniform and if you have to shorten anything up you can. Glad to hear that this helped you out. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺

Ridged conduit 3/4 and 1-inch gal with the threading machine, pony, vice, ban saw, 3 piece coupling. Chicago bender and sidewinder. More importantly, making everything level after the bend was too much or too little. Spinning the conduit on from hard to reach spots.

How would one calculate where to place the marks if the opposite end from the bends is already at a fixed distance (measuring from the previous coupling)?

How and when do you start ‘seeing’ the conduit run? I have a few conduit runs I have to make at work and I constantly second guess myself. Thanks for the help

My thing is this.. It comes easy for some, for me it didn't. So I just jumped in both feet slammed some up and asked for criticism. Knowing that no matter what someone would have something to say. Good or bad I listened and didn't get mad, took what was said and used it on my next runs. Eventually I had alot of information stored and it became easier and easier. Main thing is this. Everyone does it different and there is several ways to get it done. Make it neat and as long as it gets from one end to the other and your happy with it, then it will work. Someone will always critique your work but don't sweat it.. Listen and learn
