In the UK everyone gets their own room in university accommodation. I was in the cheaper option and I still got my own room plus an en-suite. Still find it bonkers that American collage students have to share a room with a stranger.

And often 4-6 people sharing a bathroom, at least as a first year

It's not the most ideal but this situation severely limits choices.

Yeah...this is a situation for bunk beds if I ever saw one. Even those where the bed is on top and the working space is underneath.

In Russia there indeed ARE uni dorms like this, but they're completely free. You only pay communal services which is like $15 a month.

@@julecaesara482 therapist (both uni psychologist and the physician, idk which you mean) are also free in my uni, the physician free anyway (because Russia). Of course you could rent a 1 bedroom flat instead, but 30 min walk from the campus at best, sometimes rather a few stops by the metro and $500 a month + communal service. The older dorms, they stay pretty much the way they were bulit in 1952 or something. Bunk beds, lavatory on the floor. Modern ones are more spacious, but they are normally for elder courses or teachers. Many people prefer studying in the uni co-working (also free), and sleeping in cramped conditions, but ON the campus. Like 50 m away from the nearest classes.
