Just tried this and it worked great! Left the skull to sit for 3 days after applying the bleach/bleach powder mixture. It whitened up the skull significantly! After a little bit of cleaning the skull looks fantastic! I would recommend this technique to anyone who’s wanting a nice white Euro mount!

When bleaching hair with this same mixture, you are in fact supposed to wrap the hair in foil or plastic wrap. Yes, it otherwise would dry and clump, but the bleaching process also stops working as it dries. The chemical reaction between the peroxide and ammonia releases heat, and by trapping the heat, it keeps the bleaching process going. I already have this stuff at home, so it’s cool that I can use it on skulls too!

This method works really well -- the bleach powder is expensive so I got a 1 oz. pack for ~$4.50. Thought I would save what was left in the jar to use later, but it expanded and bubbled out of the pack. The skull is really whiting up and less mess than boiling. Highly recommend. By the way, going to get the bulk bleach at ~$15 or so.

I’m rewatching this video to refresh my memory from 2020. My son and I both got nice bucks then and I used your process on both of them and it turned out very nice. I got a nice buck this week and I’m going to do it again. Thanks for the demonstration.

hey! thanks for this, i’d been looking for a way to lighten an old, mossy bear skull that’s pretty weather damaged. i used 20 volume developer and it worked perfectly. thanks again!

Great video thank you for posting it! A little bit of help from the peanut gallery, when you were talking about how thick you want it after adding the powder. I would describe it in a term that’s used in baking, and or dessert making by pastry chefs, when you lifted that butter knife out with the way that it covered the entire knife and came down in a sheet that is called curtaining . If it stays stuck to the knife and then drips off the end that’s called roping, and as usually thinner probably what you started out with would rope instead of curtain if that makes any sense to you. I worked in some fancy restaurants when I was young and had to learn all those terms and ways of talking paid off when I got in the body work lol.

Good job. I was looking for a way to bleach the skull without having to boil it again after the Oxy Clean. I like the Mop n Glow idea too.

So it looks like you pull everything out of the nasal cavity after boiling. Does it come out pretty easy? I actually think it looks better when finished that way. Also, do you remove the ear buds?

Very educational! Does temperature matter while waiting for the cream to do its job? Say 40 degrees vs 60 degrees? I would guess maybe in colder temps it would just take longer??

Great video, I used your method. But why not use an oil based flat primer spray can? It’ll be white and won’t let the oils through. I guess what I’m saying why don’t people use spray paint?

Painting it really makes it look more fabricated and less natural. It covers up to very fine lines and cracks that skulls have. But if that's the look some people are going for, that's their preference. Most prefer a more natural one.

Any idea why mine got darker? Used the exact products and did the same thing and mine are almost black?? Only difference is I had to use Salon Care 50 instead of 40 because that’s all they had??

Using any metal other than aluminium could cause a chemical reaction with the bleach, so will previous colour treatments and water with heavy metals in it.

Using a higher level of developer (50vol) should have just made it work quicker, if left too long it'll start breaking down the bone thought.
