One of those ideas that sound great in theory, not so good in actual practice. Even in gravity bleeding there's enough force behind the fluid to push the air out even though 'air rises'. Either a vacuum pump at the wheels or a pressure bleeder at the M/cyl is best. You're pushing all the old fluid and debris in the right direction. Out of the system. One of the problems with this method is the bleeder drain hole is kind of small so you need to push past that and all the way up to the top, and the bleeder screw doesn't seal around the threads. Not a problem if you're pushing fluid out, as it was intended. If you're going the other way you could introduce air by siphon and be chasing bubbles.

ABS in the title but you never mentioned how it works with the ABS system.. do you need a scan tool to open the ABS valves or does this pump push past it?

You don't need a fancy system, a mighty vac or cheap Harbor freight one is fine. The idea is by using positive pressure from the caliper you force the ABS valve open. The fittings have to be air tight or you will push air into the abs module. The other issue is if you got really dirty old fluid you could damage the seals by forcing it through the abs module and master cylinder, but it does work. Pressure bleeding from the master cylinder is the way to go and that's what most dealers use. Usually on motor cycles revverse bleeding is the only way to go because those little master cylinders don't move much fluid.

That's true but without ABS scan tool to open the ABS valves it's very difficult to use a pressure system I have the MOTOV one where you pump the tank like a sprayer even pumping it up many times barely moves any fluid. Shop told me need that tool opens the valves so fluid will flow.

For example, on a Honda VSA system, how about pressurizing the master cylinder with a motive bleeder, and then running the ABS pump via scan tool to ensure maximum fluid flow out of the abs unit?

i made a vacuum bleeder that uses compressed air through a vacuum generator to create vacuum in a small tank( i used a empty 20lb propane/lp tank ) i remove the top valve once tank is emptied of pressure, get some plumbing fittings to install vacuum generator where valve once was, i then drilled a hole in top of tank to use a 1/8 pipe thread tap, then get a 1/8 x 1/4 inch brass barb fitting, i used about 6 feet of blue 1/4 ID fuel line and then you can attach the fitting to fit over your bleeder screw. hook up air hose to the vacuum generator, crack open bleeder about 1/2 turn, and then add fresh brake fluid to master cylinder while vacuum is drawing the fluid out through the bleeder. no more having a 2nd person to bleed brakes by pumping the brakes in vehicle. all the materials for making this vacuum tank costs about 80 bucks you can get a vacuum generator off ebay for 10-15 bucks. i also use it for changing oil in lawn mowers by using a 1/4 or 3/16ths steel tubing that goes into dipstick tube and sucks oil out of crankcase. use it for bleeding brakes on motorcycles too

4:00 "Air rises" Correct. And I can clearly see that there is a downhill from the caliper through the hose towards the reservoir. Typically there are both down- and up-hills in both directions. And if you've got dust in the bleeder screw you push that into the system.

I hate to um, burst your bubble, but your system is the worst thing you can do to that particular vehicle. I have 2011 GMC Terrain, GMC's equivalent to the Chevy Equinox. Changed the brake pads all round, pretty basic job I've done dozens of times on other vehicles. Pull one slide bold out of caliper, flip it over off of the rotor, take off outer pad, place large C-clamp against inner pad and back of caliper, press piston back into caliper, replace both pads, reinstall caliper. Done. Wrong. Spongy brake pedal, will go completely to the floor with enough push. Apparently, lots of late model GM vehicles have this problem. Vacuum bleed the brakes, BTW- on this vehicle it's RR, RF, LF, LR. No improvement. Took it to dealer. They said they used pressure bleeder on master cyl and vacuum bleeder on each caliper simultaneously and exercised the ABS pump at the same time. $212 later, I have about 2" of pedal that went right back to the spongy no hard pedal condition before I got it home. Watched several KZfaq videos on this subject. purchased an Autel MasterCheck Pro that has capability to exercise the ABS pump. Took 5 cycles of VACUUM bleeding and running ABS pump to get Brake pedal all the way back. This is not unusual from what I've now discovered. Dealer doesn't pay mechanic to bleed several times so.....that was never going to happen. Lesson learned; on these vehicles you must crack the bleeder when pushing back the caliper piston or the ABS pump losses it's "mind". I used a vacuum pump to bleed with because pushing fluid back toward the master cylinder is what made ABS pump go stupid and kill my brake pedal travel to begin with. Your device may work quite fine on many cars but you cannot literally push air. Air will flow up hill on its own until it hits a high point loop in a line to go around something then its likely the air will stay trapped in the top of the loop. You should NEVER push fluid from the wheel to the master cyl on any late model GM product. if you got lucky that's good for you but NOBODY should use your device on late model GM's and likely many other ABS vehicles. The unquestionable best way to bleed is from the wheel with a vacuum bleeder. Vacuum is best because a vacuum will tend to pull air better than fluid. The negative air pressure in the line will pull the air bubbles right through much of the brake fluid in the line. I have changed disc brake pads 3-4 dozen times in my life and never had a problem pushing back caliper piston but this is what caused a cascade of problems on my Terrain. Your device, by pushing fluid, exacerbates the problem. Not trying to dis your product or troll you. Just trying to keep others from going through what I did. Sorry. Who knew?

Thank you, i have this problem too and i couldnt figure this out. My caliper is getting stuck so i replace all calipers. Now, after 5 bottle of 12oz prestone dot 3 brake fluid, im still having the same spongy pedal. I also replaced 2 master cylinder already. I went to autozone and they told me i have lots of air in the system. I told him i out 5 bottles already, then he said, "thats weird". I now also confused and thinking of doing this reverse bleed. Thank you for saving me time and money. Now, i just need to figure out whats causing my brake pedal to go sink all the way to the bottom and only slowly builds up pressure
@39knights
@39knights 4 жыл бұрын
@@ninjazzrhythm400 Not sure if it is your problem but the Ford F150/250 have a pressure bypass valve in their ABS modules. When this bypass valve fails it causes constant spongy brake. When you brake suddenly and hard the brake will respond; but constant pressure on the pedal will cause it to eventually hit the floor. The only solution is a new ABS module. After 5 bottles of fluid I would think your problem is more mechanical than air related unless you are letting air into the system somehow in your procedure. There is also an ABS brake bleed procedure that must be done with a scantool with this function.

Had the same problem with T5 VW Transporter. Got away with it on the rear brakes but when I did the fronts pushing back the calipers without opening the bleed nipples got the spongy pedal which I couldn't bleed out. Took it to my local VW specialist and they had to pressure bleed for 2 days. Must be common to all ABS systems.

Hey buddy had a question I’m running into problems I have a 1997 F150 XLT 4.6 L 4 x 4 and I bled the brakes system put new oil & seals on the brake calipers and drum brake pistons put a new brake master cylinder and brake booster and tested the ABS module by sticking a stick in the little hole and pressing on the brake and it does not move the stick supposedly that sign is good but my brakes are still spongy meaning it sinks in half way And driving at 25 miles an hour residence I stepped hard on the brakes and it takes about 1.5 or 2 seconds to come to a stop but I want my brakes to bite on the rotors and it’s not doing that is this normal or do I need to plug a scanner so it could auto bleed mode to complete the service so it could break hard? I heard this from a GMC Tech veteran who said that I might need to hook up scanner just like the GMC trucks. I hope u can help with good info. I want my truck To leave tread marks on the ground when I slam the brakes hard I want my brace to bite the rotors just like my Mazda 2002 but I don’t know where ABS is the Design to not do this.

I sometimes use one of the removed weak gas hood struts, between the pedal and the seat; And it actually keeps pushing the pedal down all the way while you are at the wheel opening and closing the bleeder bleeder; a new one won't do of course,you just *can't compress it* ,and it would just tear a hole in your seat front.

If you really want to market this tool for this company, you should provide proof that you can in fact clear all of the air from the ABS Module. Otherwise, you are misrepresenting the product and giving false hope to those of us that have tried everything we could possibly think of within reason to get the air out of the module. So please, give us some proof, or don’t misrepresent the tool by making false claims of it’s capabilities.
