It's not even remotely similar to your analogy. Your analogy suggests that people call you and then something tries to stop the call but then they get around it anyway and you still are bothered by the call. That's not accurate at all. This works for many peoples needs. The reason it works is with this method you don't see/hear it ring at all. So you can never answer the call when it's ringing you as you never even know it's ringing. In that sense It's essentially the same thing as being blocked. The only way you would know any one called at all is if AFTER the fact you looked at your missed calls or if you got a voice mail. They could still leave a voicemail. If a friend gets a new number, at least you could still get a voice mail telling you so. So for a lot of people this is preferable. To make your analogy accurate, this method is like someone standing on my property and blocking people from getting on my property. They block them from ever reaching my house. And the person who is blocking them, keeps a list of who came, and records any thing they want to say, and then the blocker puts that list in my drop box in case i ever want to know about it.

Weird. Aren't they calling you over Facebook or some other messenger? If I block my second number on my iPhone, all calls are 100% rejected even if I try to call over WhatsApp or Viber.

it is okay. Silence unknown callers will reject all non-contacts that are not in recents and DND will reject according to its config - it can block even non-favorites.

"Silence unknown callers" and "do not disturb" do NOT block unwanted calls and unknown contacts, and do NOT end calls immediately. Both features send ALL unwanted calls and unknown contacts (e.g. spam and scams) to your voicemail, letting spammers and scammers know your phone number is active and can be passed on or sold to other spammers and scammers. Using the "silencing unknown callers" and "do not disturb" features is equivalent to me standing at your front door and telling you I'm going to block unknown people from entering your home. But when they come to your front door, I stop them and send them to your back door, which is open with a closed screen door. Allowing them to yell into your house, asking "are you home?" or "come let me in," or some other message. This video does NOT tell you how to block numbers, as stated in the title.
