Awesome thanks! Would be great to see you do a tutorial explaining what you think about when riding and you see a big root or crack or curb and decide whether to bonk or nudge or just de-weight and lift up and over, etc. like when does a small curb go from bonkable to a nudge? I tend to overthink these and would love to hear your thought process.
@TheFloatLife
@TheFloatLife 4 жыл бұрын
That’s a tricky one! You just have to make a judgement call based on size and hope you picked the right one! We still mess that up every once in a while, but it feels rad when you get it right!

I'm no expert, but I've been doing a lot of nasty trails lately and the best way to know is just experience and practice. Pad up and don't fear going down. Being afraid to crash is more likely to cause a crash. Just hit the trail, try different things and if something feels good, go back and do it again.. experiment. If it feels wrong, try it again with a different technique. Run the same exact short trail 20 times and try different things at different obstacles at different speeds and you'll very quickly learn your limits and skill level and understand what to do. After a bit (faster than you think) you'll start recognizing threats or sick trick opportunities way ahead of time. I hope this helps, because I was super sketched out by roots and sand pits until I just kept hitting them. Haha

Bonks in my steeze now, thanks. Working on the Shifty. But about day one. It was seemingly impossible the first few attempts. I pushed and popped but the board was logged onto the ground. So I just did some unweighted pushing and popping and stomping in my carving till I struck gold. The foot I call the lead foot that is the one over the sensor I had been shifting side to side while unweighting after my pushing and popping when soon I had my switch foot that is the foot on the tail rise up a lil' bunny kick. It doesn't take much at all to connect the combo to get some screech. Love that!

Bodhi, any tips for bonks and curbs for us plus sized folks? I feel like 220 lbs rider rider vs 140lbs changes dynamics of the board a bit
@Dangkles
@Dangkles 4 жыл бұрын
Idk if the dynamics necessarily change, I think we just have to commit a lot harder to do the same motions, which can be scary

@TheFloatLife 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dangkles He's right! Its the same thing, you just have to trust it!
@RediJedi702
@RediJedi702 4 жыл бұрын
Ya im a 220+ lbs and its the commitment to the trick but the fundamentals are the same. The only dynamic that changes imo is u have to be way more careful of overloads but it can work in ur favor cuz if u wanna go up or down a particularly aggressive bump like the ones bodhi is bonking in this vid but u can't quite bonk u can overload it to drag the tail as u drop or bump up the obstacle and than as the tail follows thru and bounces up it will basically auto balance the board. Now it won't work on all obstacles but where the curbs drop to the gutter for cars seem to be where I use it most. Some of them in vegas r nice and flush and other will fling u off ur board so fast u will get up with no front teeth

Do you have advice on how to practice on a smaller scale or exercices to do before going straight for the bonk ? Also, as for the pop, is it just me or jumping off the board, even if rolling straight without even doing a bonk is hard ? I mean pushing yourself off the board to jump/swing is not easy since if you push harder from one leg you'll loose balance, and jumping both feet together feels ackward. I don't fully grasp this part

The height will come from speed and how hard you push the board forward and down into the bonk. For a high bonk, come in fast, push it hard and quick while popping in the air pretty high. Send a video to my instagram (@bodhiharrison) and I can take a look! 🤙
