In today's video I go over how to bowl lather before your shaves. This is a simple tutorial that will help you get a dense protective lather that is well hydrated and perfect for your shave.

Another shaving cream for Newbies is Proraso shaving cream in a tube. It’s economical as hell…$10….and lathers up really easily. I started with it…and after many others at high prices…I keep coming back to my all time favorites….Proraso Green….Red… and White.

I agree with spreading out the soap. The other thing that works like magic is using DISTILLED WATER to make your lather. It works much better than tap water, even if the water coming out of the tap is soft.

I've used the distilled water method for 2 months and it made great lathers but I didn't notice enough difference for me to bother with it moving forward.

I know some people in the community who just hate bowl lathering. The kind that think "if your not shaving my way, your doing it wrong". Well you can hate the player but don't hate the game. The proof is in the lather. You can't argue with those results. Thanks for watching brother! 🙏🏻

I've also been playing with samples in the bowl lately and I agree with the spreading technique. You'll often find that a lot of bowl latherers have a lot of residual soap left in the bowl because they've just chucked a big clump in the bottom. This is a great technique!
@dk.damnfineshave
@dk.damnfineshave 4 жыл бұрын
I used to just press a chuck in the bottom but it would always leave a bunch of soap behind that didn't get incorporated. I have found this technique to be much more effective. Thanks for watching bro 🙏🏻

@@dk.damnfineshave It's very good for bowl loading and then building the lather on your face but your technique is much better for actual bowl lathering in my opinion.

I started out with a bowl like this….but had problems with it. It was hard to securely hold and usually needed to be picked up with two hands when they were soapy….plus my Simpsonn T3 brush sank down to low in the bowl. Solution….I found the FINE bowl on West Coast Shaving for $28….also sold on Amazon. It is 5 in. across and 2 1/2 in. Deep….nice looking ceramic. The big plus to this bowl is the thumb loop with a brush rest on top. It is ergonomic as hell. You can slip your left thumb through the loop and pick the bowl up with one soapy hand…and it’s secure and not going anywhere. Your right hand can pick up your brush off the brush rest. The Fine bowl really lathers up easily and is wide enough to give good brush action without banging against the sides….and just deep enough to keep lather from spilling over the sides. The last plus is the ease of cleaning. The ribs on the bottom and sides are easy to clean under running water with just your thumb. This is the best bowl I’ve found and recommend it highly. Check it out on KZfaq here…under Fine shaving bowl.

Great tutorial! I'm using the PAA travel scuttle and typically just spread it out near the bottom, which is actually quite small/narrow. It gets me there, but it does take some time and lots of water (using a badger brush). I'll have to experiment with spreading it thinner and higher on the bowl's walls. Wish I found this video a couple months ago!

Great demo! I use a similar method, except I use a sturdy guitar pick to scoop the soap out. I use a bit more water to start with as well. I prefer a bit more of a thinner yogurt lather when I’m shaving my head and a bit thicker for my face 👍🏻

Thanks for the lesson. I have trouble getting all the air out of my lathers. Is there a big difference between soaps and creams?
@dk.damnfineshave
@dk.damnfineshave Жыл бұрын
There is a big difference in soaps and creams for the most part. Even from one soap company to another, there are differences. The method is pretty universal. Except I would add water even more slowly with a cream because it already has a good amount of moisture in it. If your lathers are really airy, you may be whipping your lather too aggressively or simply putting too much water. It may just be a high structure soap/cream and that's just the way it is. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Do any Shave Pucks or hard soaps are going to work?. You can mix and match old soaps? to fit in any mug or cup that you like to use. like (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arkos shave soaps?) Cut the bar soap up, put in a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave for a minute or so? if it foams up, stop. the water keeps it from burning itself up? (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy does it? let cool don't want to crack the mugs or cups you're using? ( you just went it to congeal in your mug or cup') place in the sun, until soap hardens? When using Dry Brush more Water. For its (price point?)' (I use Dove bar soaps?) (use any soaps Out there ??) save your money spend it on your wife don't listen to the shave mafia.try to save people money in these inflationary times wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas
