I’m two handed. I started last year. Tried bowling one handed to start and could generate hook. I’m 30. My buddies told me if they were just starting they would do two handed so I did. Just shot 654 for my best night ever last night. Your videos helped me understand bowling a lot. Appreciate it.

I have bowled one handed for 30 years. After seeing a friend of mine try two handed, I watch a ton of videos, including this one, to understand how it works. Things I struggle with are keeping the shoulder down, speed (only 14mph) and keeping the ball close to my body and ankle on release. I love this video and all it has to offer!

Was one handed, thumbless the first 20 years of my life. Had a real bad injury to my dominant wrist and couldn't use one hand due to very limited Range of Motion and overall less wrist strength that I couldn't get back. Went two-handed, sucked for about a year, something finally clicked half-way through my first league. Now I am consistently in the top of our league against some very high scratch bowlers. Wish I would've learned initially as a kid, maybe I would be on TV already if I did. xD

I started one-handed when I was in high school and into college. Didn't play from college to this last summer(15ish years later). A couple hockey related injuries made it so two-handed is my new bowling style. Absolutely loving it! Your reviews, tips, and joy in the sport has been wonderful to watch and learn from.

I bowled one handed for years. I didn’t pick up bowling again until a few years ago. My shoulder started giving me issues so I switched to two hand a little over a year ago and it felt great. I shoot all my spares two handed for consistency and use a plastic ball. Works great and my 10 pins are no problem.

Thank you!! I just tried 2 handed yesterday and the kid that helped me(he is oneyear older than me) sent me this. I tried 2 handed because when I would throw 1 handed, it would burn my fingers on the release. With two handed, it seemed like my shots were more consistent.

So I just started my first bowling league ever and have always bowled with two fingers at first I was not really using both my hands. I could not really grasp how to release the ball for consistency and this video step by step really helped me out. Right after watching it I was able to go to league and used what I learned from here and hit above my average for all three games. Thank you very much for this!

I have bounced around TWICE. I started one hand when just casually bowling, I transitioned into two-handed when I figured out how to make more hook and was intrigued by the uniqueness of the style and even started my first league two-handed. Surprisingly, I went back to one handed but thumbless based off a dare from my bowling buddy. I found more balance, more control and still the same hook potential as a two-hander and was inspired by Tom Daugherty.

I have been working my behind off as a one-handed bowler. The big problem I have been trying to overcome is the fact that my wrist is weak due to an injury long ago (missing some bones). I have limited mobility in my wrist and struggle to keep it cupped on my backswing. The result is a lot of pain and very little revs. I have managed to work my average to around 200 on a house shot despite my limitations. I was bowling with a two hander and realized that it might resolve my issues so I gave it a try. I have a long road ahead to get back to my average but I have a ton of revs and a great hook with no pain! It is something I thought I would share because I have not heard it called out that it could help people with wrist issues bowl that nice hook into the pocket. Thanks for all of your videos guys, they have been very helpful. Now if you can send Belmo here to give me a few tips that would be great, thanks. :)

@@aidenjaxlol Dumbest response I've ever heard. 1-handers always butt-hurt bc a new technique emerged with astounding success and they are pissed bc the 1-handed game took them so long to get good at. Even amongst 1-handers, there are profoundly different styles, and none would be considered the "easy way out" just bc they're different. Dick Fosbury was roundly criticized when he brought about the "Fosbury Flop" in high-jumping. Belmo heard people laugh at him and criticize him even in his youth when he was developing his 2-handed game. They laughed right up until he started kicking all their asses and setting one PBA record after another, and that continues to this day. 2-handers aren't successful bc they are taking performance enhancers. Your comparison to steroids is downright ignorant. Everything a 1-hander has to learn and concentrate on, a 2-hander does too. It's just different. Finally, if being a 2-hander was some automatic cheat code that makes all of them so much better, then they'd win every single time. As has been the case this year and many in the past, that ain't happening all the time. Belmo is amazing, as is Simo, but just look at how long Norm Duke was dominant or at what Tackett is doing this season. After years of observing and contemplating my feelings about bowling styles (I've been on both sides), I decided that telling somebody which style he chooses to utilize is either right or wrong, good or bad, or anything of the sort is kinda like telling a man how to drink his whiskey.....just don't do it and stay in your lane. Mind your own damned business and enjoy it in whichever way suits you most (unless you put coke in a really nice small batch bourbon.....that's just rude).

Started one-handed, then I bought my first reactive ball. Got my thumb stuck a few times in it, trying to get used to my new ball. I threw my ball in the air few times because of it and once in the alley next to me. Was so embarassed... Then I try one hand but with no thumb. It was difficult for me to control the hook as I put too much hook and not enough speed + it hursts my wrist after several games. This is why I am now playing 2 handed, which works better for me. But I still struggle with the speed : too much hook, not enough speed. I'll try to accelerate my approach like Jimoo is suggesting. Thanks a lot for the video ! Very helpful !

I'm generally around a 210 average when bowling 1 handed, switched to 2 handed at the end of last season as I felt I was pretty capped at what I was capable of 1 handed. I'm a pretty low rev player and feel I struggled on oily lanes getting any movement at big tournaments, where with a normal house shot I was alright. I also switch to two handed as a new challenge and it makes bowling more fun for me trying to learn something new. I shot about 531 week 1 of bowling this year, then shot 675 week 2 prebowling. Had my new high 2 handed game of 248 and shot like 212 and 217 my other. Looking forward to the challenge of getting better 2 handed and hoping to average 200 by the end of the year!

Growing up I started out one handed but without the thumb like Tom Daugherty. Then when I got more into bowling and got out of using house balls I tried doing one handed with the thumb. I kept practicing but wasn't getting comfortable or getting the RPM's I wanted. So that's when my cousins convinced me to do two handed since I was used to no thumb. I found to be more consistent the more I practiced and was getting more revolutions using two handed. Thank you for this breakdown video, definitely found this very helpful!

I started 1 hand bowling back in HS. However my coach back then told me go heavy weights so he encouraged me to get a 15/16LB bowling ball. At the time I probably weighed 105lbs always had a trouble throwing the balls due to my wrist breaking. One day my buddies and I were hanging out at the lanes having fun and we all started 2 hand bowling. I then realized that I was seeing so much more hook that my bowling balls have never done before. I stuck with 1 hand bowling but then took a break. 6 years later and still having the same issue with my wrist breaking. For fun I 2handed bowled and still saw an improvement I decided to stick with 2 hand bowling and I feel that was the move! Still learning and improving!

I've been a one handed bowler my whole life and started bowling 2 handed last week out of necessity. A month ago I threw a shot and my radial nerve in my arm got pinched, numbed half my hand, and caused me to drop the ball right in the gutter. The feeling came back after 30 seconds or so but I went home after that and didn't bowl again until last week in league. 1st shot and the same thing happened with my arm. I had to bowl 2 handed the rest of the night and actually did ok. A lifetime of manual labor has made it where I have to learn how to bowl all over again. On the plus side, I have more stamina because it's less of a load on my dominant arm, and I get a helluva rotation with little effort. I came here for some tips on my newfound style and got it so thanks for that 🤙🏾

I started bowling ~3.5 years ago and for the first 1.5 years I bowled 1 handed and switched to 2 handed 2 years ago. Sometimes during practice I would try out a few shots 2 handed and joked about switching to 2 handed. One day I decided to make the switch but still decided to shoot my spares 1 handed because I can’t get my spare ball to go straight enough. Right now I am switching to shooting my spares 2 handed so that I have 1 consistent way of releasing the ball instead of 2 totally different ways. The reason I switched was because bowling 2 handed I get more hook and revs and I could barely hook the ball 1 handed and maybe a little bit because of Belmo.

I'm a very large guy but never liked the feel of a heavy house ball with the huge holes, and the lighter ones didn't fit my hands at all. I couldn't get my hand underneath a house ball to generate any revs or hook whatsoever. Switching to two hands let me get comfortable using balls 14+ lbs and I just threw my first ever 200 game a week or so after switching to two hands. It was like my 3rd or 4th outing trying it. Before that my best game was maybe 117. I'm mind blown by the improvements it's made to my game. I was bowling straight, doing badly, and hurting my hand in the process. Now my hand hurts a good deal less and I'm bowling almost 100 over my straight scores. I'm sure if I had a coach I could have figured one handed bowling out eventually, but this is just so much more intuitive for me as a self taught bowler who just picked up the sport. I'm having a blast now and can't stay away from the alley lol.

started as one hand bowling when i was about 8 and bowled for about 7 years but was never able to average over 200 so stopped bowling and came back 2 years ago trying 2 handed bowling and excelled tremendously. average 223 and just shot my 2 800 series last week.

I switched to two handed 2 years ago after countlessly ripping apart my thumb from my aggressive one handed approach, decided it was time to switch and taught myself through trial and error, been improving and currently running a 228 in my league for 42 games. I feel no pain in my wrist anymore since converting and my game is looking better than ever

This sounds amazing. How old are you? I’m 42 and I’m tired of wrist pain and trying to figure out fit grip pressure and tape through the years it’s getting old. I figure going two handed will be a fresh way to change up bowling as it’s getting frustrating as of late. Was bowling amazing last year and on the up and up with 2 800’s and 300’s on a few week span. Then after that summer Ives been in decline and it’s been pain in my hand. I feel if I’m going to do it I have to commit. And not switch back and forth. Assume you got a call drilled first or did you throw existing stuff in practice for awhile then get one?

@@chriswebbtech Im 40 and switch to two handed bowling 2 months ago and never looked back. It help with my wrist pain tremendously. I practiced with my then current lay out on my ball that had thumb holes. I decided to go 2 handed layout with no thumb after about a week. My advice is to practice your release with a light house ball that way you can develop muscle memory on the proper way to release as a two hander. I found it easier to start off with lighter balls then my normal 15 pounders. You can find 2 handed layout for your balls on youtube. just search it.

@@ericpadilla2454 yeah I just started making myself so two handed. I got the form down now better. I had problems getting the ball outside the first day. Now I got that solved by getting my shoulders down and left one pointing to target. Much better. Not I just got to get the release points going. Def. Think I’m gonna switch full time. It’s fun again. And I struck once without hitting head pin. Wtf. Lol. Want to get a new ball but I think I need to keep practicing a bit more till I get more consistent release so I can get a somewhat decent PaP reading for a two handed drill. Thanks for your insight. At 42 my hip and ass is feeling it but I know I’m using those muscles like I should. Gonna be like working out should go away after getting it trained ;). No back pain so that’s good! Lol

Just threw my first two handed game ever. Got a strike in the second frame and 5 total throughout the game. I never really get much for revolutions one handed and seeing this difference really gives my ball more action.

I am a speed dominant 1 handed bowler currently trying to become a 2 handed bowler. I've been bowling for 11 years, and have recently started bowling on a few sport patterns. The reason I want to make this switch is simply because I have to play a very finite and direct line on even modified house shots dispite trying everything I can to put revs on the ball. I've gotten better with my accuracy 2 handed, but my ball speed is really slow (about 14 to 15 mph while 1 handed is 16 to 18 mph), so I have to find a way to increase ball speed so I don't have to loft the gutter woth my weakest ball on a house shot

I decided to start 2 handed right as my league ended. It was at our banquet and I can't wait to continue to practice it. At this moment I still have my thumb in the ball since it was originally meant for one handed. I'm going to use this for now and I may try removing that hole.

I've been a 2 finger bowler forever. But after a motorcycle accident my left leg with a titanium rod in it is making me think of going two handed. I'm upper body strong so this video has influenced me a lot. I have a plastic ball fir 10 pin. And a storm for hooking. I'm going to try this when I take my wife to bowl this weekend. Thanks for the content

I currently a 1 handed bowler. I started 1 handed when I was about 8 and was committed to bowling. I was not getting the speed and curve that I was thinking, this got me really mad and then I started to mess around with my form and how I threw the ball. I accidentally found 2 handed bowling and I found that I was getting quick and better results. Then I hit a Plato, I started to look up why and found a tutorial and fix my form, I figured that I needed to move left and throw more of an angle then I did before form 1 handed bowling. Now I am 11 and have became a way better bowler and bowled my first 250 last Sunday I think if you and young and don’t feel confident and comfortable 1 handed bowling you should try 2 handed bowling.

I’ve bowled one handed for decades and struggle with a decent hook. Today I have 2 handed a shot and was amazed at the difference. Score dropped as I was getting accustomed - definitely less comfortable starting out. But going to keep this up and see how it goes.

When I started bowling, I used one hand, like most people. How ever because I didn't know anyone who bowled, I just couldn't hook the ball. So then I tried two handed bowling, and loved how the ball hooked, but always liked the look of someone generating power with one hand, as it just looked so skilled. So I went back to one hand and practiced, until I injured my left hip playing tennis. It was so painful to plant, that I went back to two handed to try and do anything to be able to bowl and not be in pain. I was able to generate enough power two handed that I could really slow down my feet and not put so much pressure on my hip (I wasn't bowling properly, but I was able to bowl). As my hip injury got better, I was able to practice, watch Belmo bowl, and really understand that two handed bowling may be easier for me to generate speed and power, how ever accuracy and consistency was much harder, which I didn't have an issue with when use one hand.

im quite young and bowling for me was a fun way to play ive bowled with 2 hands when i first started and then moved to one handed which i got used to for a year until when didn't use bumpers anymore and then my dad taught me that the ball he used hook by itself and so he taught me how to do so and started using heavier balls which for me i kinda liked and then i used my own bowling style like 2 handed bowlers so when i saw this video i was trying to see if i could control the ball better

I started one handed with thumb, and was woeful. i couldn't clear my thumb in time and I couldn't throw it straight to save my life. My friend showed me two handed without the thumb, and i still couldn't get my left hand off in time. Then I used the best of both worlds- one handed with no thumb... And this is what i am using now, so much better and so much more control

Great info!!! Just the video I was looking for. After a 40+ yr layoff (i am almost 70), I came back to bowling about 2 months ago. Back then I threw finger tip, bowled on leagues and had about 175-180 avg. Now, after 2 months I went from about 125 up to 170 avg. I am getting 50% strikes but my spares need more improvement. I am using a 14# ball bc i don't have the strength to throw a 15 or 16# ball. Watching my practice vids i can see my wrist is open way before the bottom of my swing. A I was wondering which way to go....- drop down to a 13#, or try 2 handed? My second question would be hard to answer definitively but just a rough guess: in my situation about how long do you think it would take for me to learn 2 handed, weeks? months? or don't even try it bc you can't teach old dogs new tricks 😀😀

I bowl 2 handed and started 2.5 years ago. First started with 1 handed no thumb and went 2 handed and it had more stability and comfortability. I go back to 1 handed [with thumb] to see what's wrong with certain parts of my game. Recently, i've been working on my back swing. The back swing for 1 handed had me muscle and pull the ball backward and my timing was waaaaay to quick with my arm speed compared to having a more gravitational approach. Been shooting 600+ series in league, but there is always something to improve on and shot my first 748 series 2 weeks ago.
