Honestly after playing SB for 40+ years, I love the pancakey glove.... They tend to allow the ball in better and it pops out quickly when opened. I'm against the grain I suppose. :) This is great advice for the new mitt.

I always tell my players (especially if they are just starting) to always put the glove away with a ball (or two) in it, and NEVER shove it in a bag with nothing in the glove. I explain to them that if the glove is flat (pancaked) you have to open it and close it to catch or field. I can't tell you how many times a kid could have fielded a grounder easily, but didn't because the glove was squashed and they couldn't open it fast or wide enough. If you have more than one in a bag, put a glove inside the other and then put a ball in it. I have gloves from the 70s and 80s that still have perfect pockets because of me being pedantic about it. Glad you covered this. I have heard about putting it in the oven, it's to break down the leather fibers (basically cooking the glove,) but it will cause the lifespan of the glove to be shortened. I would never do that nor recommend that. As far as the slick problem. Try leather shoe cream in the right color. It gives the glove a nice touch up, but also keeps it from being slick.

If everyone that's needing to break in a glove looks up, how to break in a glove in one day, there's actually 2 guys out there. One guy is a Japanese guy who breaks in gloves for the pros he has a video to show him doing it. There is another guy who used to play Double-A & Triple A ball, well they both use hot water and I follow there process to the T and it works great. I wet the glove in hot water but don't drench it and I also put it in the oven to loosen up the leather and then I use vaseline to keep the leather form drying out so I basically do everything she said not to do in this video but it does work. One thing that makes a hudge difference is, don't buy a cheap glove or else it will get messed up.

Hi Megan. First of all my daughter and I love watching your videos and have been to a few of your clinics over the years. Thank you for all that you do!! My daughter plays center field going into 14u. She loves center and really plays the position well. She has been using the same glove for probably the last 4 years 12.5 inch Rawlings 50 dollar glove that has seen better days. I really like the Pro 44s and was wondering if you had any opinions on the Pro 44 gloves and also the best size and the web style as she moves on towards high school ball. Thank you for any insight you can proved.

Hello! I’m not sure if you’ll respond or not but hopefully someone will! I am 20 about to be 21 years old I’m only 5’4 so I would say I have a pretty small hand. People are telling me I need at least 12” glove for outfield positions but you can’t really see my hand at all and I can shift my hand so far over that the pinky and ring finger sections of the glove is unused because my fingers can fit in just the middle and pointer fonger with my thumb being in the thumb obviously. Also when I go to clutch the ball in my hand the glove bends diagonally instead of the thumb and pinky touching so when I catch my thumb just barely grips the softball. I think the glove is too big but others are saying that’s how it’s meant to be. Can anyone help me with this issue or figure out what size to get?
@MegRemSoftball2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I think 12 is good for outfield. Are you making sure your fingers are in the right spot?
