The tips are well noted on the snack suggestion during break in. Ill be getting a new pro xs in my future so I will definitely keep suggestions in mind. Nice rig!!!

Well I have never had a new motor but I had fun watching you break in yours. 75 MPH is mighty fast, especially when it is 30 degrees outside. Nice boat Matt, now you need the most important part of the breaking period, putting some nice bass in the boat.

Matt, where did you get your break in procedure? I've seen several different procedures on You Tube. Also, did you swap the factory oil for break in oil (straight non-detergent mineral) ??

Apologies in advance for length. My wife and I just bought a new sun tracker 20dlx fishing barge with Mercury 90hp command thrust.I hope I did the break in correctly I did vary rpms while moving . Increasing decreasing up and down. It was a BUSY day on the lake with lots of wakes and wind was little higher than they said would be. Not much but more than light and variable ( it did vary). But I noticed that at full throttle during the 1 min full throttle I was barely getting 5000 with tach 7000 max. But after about 2 hours I noticed that I was able to get it to almost 5600. I still have about 6 hours left of the 10. Just wondering if I screwed up my new motor or not.

Vary rpm for 10 minutes,every 10 minutes open it up all the way for a minute and then back it down and repeat the process for the first two hours according to the manual. Its helpful if you can bring someone with you to watch times

You obviously didn't read the owners manual. Your breaking it in like you would the old 2 stoke optimax. Nowhere in the manual does it say anything about keeping it under a load. First 2 hours you keep it under 4500 rpms with every 10 minutes going to full throttle for no more then a minute. VERY CRITICAL! It's also good to do a couple heat cycles in the first 2 hours.(letting the engine cool all the way down) This is a 4 stroke, not a 2 stroke. Completely different animal!

I broke mine in by doing ten one hour runs

Take your motor toter off and trim down your motor all the way on your trailer. Its going to be cold tonight. Dont want water freezing in there

After ten hours you can do whatever with your motor

It's an engine. Drop the hammer about 15 times from dead still to up on plane. You need to seat the rings. Unless you're putting the engine under duress you'll end up with an oil burner in a few years. A LOT of misconceptions about ANY engine break in. I've been building engines of all makes and models for a couple decades. 99% of your "break in" is done in the first 15 min. After it breaks it's "fever" it's done. Some engines break it in 30 min...some run a little hot for an hour or so. As I say..."the first couple rev's are breaking it in...the next few million are wearing it out".
