So glad this found me at the right time, I’ve been battling addiction trying and trying but every time I feel like I’ve beaten it it comes back. As a Christian this made it make a lot more sense for me and I pray that it will get better and I can have the strength to stop

Love this. I feel like what could help with sexual immorality and masturbation is if the church was open about it because I feel like the church has made it seem like something that we should feel ashamed about it so when we feel trap or in need of help and ask for advice it makes us feel embarrassed to seek for help. Due to that when people (we well me)are going through it , it makes us feel like we are the only ones going through it.

*Struggling/battling with Addictions* Now here it's easy to point fingers at someone because of a habit he/she is battling but the truth of the matter we all need deliverance.personally I battled an addiction for almost 10years but Jesus delivered me. In our current generation of mass media, addictions are common not only to people outside church but also inside church. *The lord said that we shall know the truth and the truth will set us free* Common addictions/sins that lead to bondage are pornography ,masturbation, drug abuse and many others. So what's the truth that sets us free? In most cases we fight the habit and not it's root so we manage to go some days or months without it but then after wards fall again. So what's the root of addictions? *James 1:14-15 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.* Inside us we have desires, let's say I have the desire to sleep with someone in the heart. So the ememy brings enticement in me to satisfy that desire by bringing dirty scenes in my mind ,and when I yield it gives birth to sin and it says in the above verse that sin leads to death. This is spiritual death. Just as a dead person is helpless, at this point am helpless and have not strength to resist. *Ephesians 2:1-3And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.* Now this verse describes the work of salvation done by christ but it can give us an explanation on captivity. Any mankind before coming to Christ is dead whether he knows it or not. But He is dead to the spiritual life in Christ and He is helpless and in disobedience under the power of the enemy carrying out the desires of the flesh. We see that the point is about desires of flesh which the enemy uses to entice us. Most of these enticement for us the youth are sexual. But it doesn't mean that sex is bad,God put it for a purpose within limits of marriage. So in battling addictions if you fight the addiction it's self, you get frustrated. But there are desires in heart that the spirit of God must modify. *Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.* Our efforts are weak so we need the work of the spirit in our lives. *Romans 2:29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.* The spirit does the work of circumcision in heart. But before we see the work of the spirit, it's better to continue a little bit digging the root so that we can see it. The desires we have seen bring about a feeling of satisfaction; we take the example of self gratification/masturbation it may bring a little bit of satisfaction though with guilt and if one is frustrated, bored, unhappy or annoyed He can easily yield to such temptation. So from desire we to go lack of joy or frustration. Digging the root cause we shall finally end up with the base of the root as pride/rebellion. On this root hangs all our sins. *The first sin in the world was pride (Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28)* In those chapters we see the fall of satan who was a beautiful angel in the presence of God but because of pride,He was judged by God. When satan tempted Eve in eden, the purpose of the temptation was to put pride in her heart. *Genesis 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”* In Isaiah 14& Ezekiel 28,satan wanted to be like God, so likewise Eve was tempted to be like God(living a life independent of no one) ,that's pride living independent of God. So from then we inherited pride from Adam. But God being merciful gave us Jesus to destroy the works that we brought about by satan (1John 3:8) So Jesus did the opposite of satan instead of exhorting Himself(pride) He humbled himself even to the point of dying like a criminal yet He was God(Philippians 2). This is the background of the beginning of sin and the remedy of God through the humiliation of Jesus Christ. Now we understand the words of James below. *James 4:6-7Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.* The root of all things is pride/rebellion, un-submission to God and through it we have less grace to overcome. So in spiritual warfare what should come first is doing what Christ did,Humbling others under the hand of God and then resisting the devil/the tempter and He will flee. For Christ Has given us authority over Him. In simple terms we don't look at the addiction but the working of the ememy behind it. And our victory is grace then enabling of God. The work of spirit follows next when we are under His hand.

When I have those thoughts, I turn on gospel music, a sermon or listen to the bible immediately. Something that helps too is that God calls us to capture every thought (2 Cor. 10:5) so I give those thoughts to God amd do godly things to help rebuke them.

I have been struggling with masturbation and pornography since I was very young. It started out as this small thing that I rarely ever did but then it just got bigger and bigger. I feel a lot of shame and guilt because of it. I don't really know who to open up about this because it seems a little too personal and private to share with a random church person and I don't wanna tell my family because I feel like they are going to be really disappointed in me.
