💡Tip: You can learn a lot about the quality of the Ripe Pu-erh by examining the wash. Regardless of the age or storage of a Ripe Tea, the wash liquid should be translucent and clean, dark is okay but if it is cloudy or or murky that would be reason for concern.

Shu pu'erh is one of my favourites, particularly in the evenings. I recently watched a video in which someone compared the taste of ripe pu'erh to the aromas of a walk in the forest in autumn. I like that.

Same here, I always enjoy drinking Ripe Pu-erh in the evening, after diner or in colder weather. So comfortable.

Great video. I just returned from London,I was mudlarking,which is searching the low tide shore of the Thames river for items of interest. On September 24th,I found a curious little Chinese lid! I kept it,unsure of what exactly it was. 4 days later,I found the other part!! It is a beautiful tea leaf jar! I shall cherish it,and store my finest leaves in it.

Thanks for watching. Lucky you, a beautiful antique tea jar. Couldn’t think of anything better to store good tea in.

Years ago, I quit drinking coffee and started drinking tea. Mostly, it was average quality teas and tisanes that I enjoyed but one day, I stumbled upon yerba mate on the internet, bought some and loved it. After trying quite a few brands of yerba mate, I then discovered Pu-erh tea on the internet, bought some and then realized what real tea should be. Now, by far, Pu-erh is my favorite. I've tried over 20 different samples of ripe and raw Pu-erh and I usually do two sessions a day because I like it so much. I'm only an amateur, so I have a question: is it true that tea leaves from ancient shrubs produce a much better tea than from younger plants? And if so, is it possible to buy tea specifically from ancient shrubs? Thanks.

Hey mike, thanks for sharing and watching. You have hit a very deep and complicated subject. Yes, tea leafs from older tea trees are more valuable and in my opinion much more enjoyable, Because of the deeper root structure, but it also requires being able to get ahold of authentic tea from ancient arbor material. It is not as easy as we would hope. Feel free to explore my other videos or visit my Patreon if you want to learn how to identify tea from old tea trees. You have opened up a very large subject to explore and part of the beauty of Pu-erh

Very calm and well shot video, but I think you should have been more specific on the time; a novice might for example consider a few seconds for the first brew, to be under 5s, which I think with most ripe's wouldn't produce a decent result.

I bought this tea about $7 for 100g Loose leaf, is it considered a high quality Loose leaf? Can I still use this method?

Hello! Can I ask what this kind of wooden tray with a cut at the edge at 0:36 is called? I want to buy one for myself, but I have no idea what to search for online 😢

That is a pu-erh breaking tray, many online retailers have then, though the smaller sized one are hard to find.

So tea is drinkable after the first infusion? Don't need to make 3rd or 4th and drink only then?
@JeffreyMcIntosh
@JeffreyMcIntosh 2 жыл бұрын
This depends greatly on the quality of the tea. The better the quality the cleaner and safer. If your unsure of the quality or the tea looks cloudy or dirty then more rinses are needed.

Is it necessary for me to rinse the tea leaves before doing the first infusion? I recently bought my own pu erh tea and am using a tea ball infuser to brew it.

Yes, if it is ripe Puerh, you should always do a short wash with boiling water.

Im not familiar with tea yet, but im guessing yes, it seems the first steep is usually flavorless or has impurities, so “washing” the tea would just move you forward a little and open the leaves up for when you are going to drink iy
