This video has been so helpful for me, it gives me a lot of peace. I am healing from cancer and I will be a first time flyer with meds to go international and quite honestly I’m a little freaked out about it but this has helped me I’ll watch it again to make sure I soak in the details.❤

Good luck with humira! I’ve never tried humira but my friend’s dad who taught me about this traveling with injections trick...he has been on humira for over 15 years and travels every 2-weeks for work.

Julie Hayden I have juvenile idiopathic arthritis and I’m on Humira I’m not going to lie it does hurt a lot but it definitely does help as every other medication I have been to as not helped and we needed something so my body stopped attacking my immune system ;-;

Even though having to take shots suck, it’s better than the suffering! Hopefully as medical science improves in the next few years, they’ll have pill versions of these injections. Until then, stay strong!

I've never had to travel with anything more than an Epi Pen and with those it's no trouble. I just keep mine tucked in a small red pouch with the white health cross sign on it. Then clip that on my backpack. It has a little tag that says "Emergency Epi Pen inside. Handle with care." And have never had any issues outside of them removing the pen itself to verify that's what it was. Didn't even need a Dr's note or copy of my prescription. But if you need to keep something cold I guess that is a little different.
@JeffreyLin3 жыл бұрын
Yup. i've always traveled with my EpiPen just fine, but with these syringes that need to be cold, it gets a bit more complicated.

Awesome advice, thanks man. I was planning to go abroad for a few months and wasn't sure how I would be able to with these injections. How long do those ice packs last? How much dupixent do you travel with?
@JeffreyLin5 жыл бұрын
Oh nice. Where are you going? The ice packs can last all day if you keep it in the insulated lunch/picnic bags and you’re not directly under the sun. You can also ask the flight attendant to keep the ice pack in their freezer if they have space. I travel with just 1 Dupixent since, as I’ve mentioned, I’m only doing injections every 6-8 weeks. But all the Dupixent I’ve gotten have a expiration date of a year, so what you bring probably won’t expire. Also, Dupixent can last for 7 days outside the refrigerator so if you’re planning to do an injection a few days after arriving, that works too. Just remember once Dupixent is at room temperature, you can’t put it back in the refrigerator.

@@JeffreyLin your tips are very helpful. Were your travels domestic only? I’m thinking of international travel with a connection in a 3rd country, so I probably will have more trouble?
@JeffreyLin3 жыл бұрын
It’s the same for international travel. Just remember to have your doctors note and let your airline know when booking or at the checking countrr

I took my pre-loaded syringes in my carry on from Costa Rica, to Miami, to DFW, no questions asked. As long as they are labeled, they don't seem to care. What set off the TSA was my birth control implant 🙄 at least they sent another female to handle it. So if you have an implantable medication or device, be aware, the x-ray will probably pick that up.

Good for trying to help with this though I've re entry read that many airlines are not prepared to store medication in fridges now due to liability. Also, how do you manage with multiple Dupixent injections which need storing between 2 and 8 degrees C? I've been told by the company that the syringes must be kept in their original box which makes them too big to fit into some portable fridges like lifeinabox. If you are going away for several weeks requiring maybe 4 syringes somehow one needs a portable fridge to store them for correct temp. Any ideas? You're a brave man Jeffrey for sharing your story.

Thanks brother great advice. I've never found the need to freeze the ice packs out of fear that the medication will freeze so i just refrigerate the ice packs with the medication. Do you have any recommendations of a good backpack which can accomodate my other medications such as creams, tubes, sprays etc
@jessicah34503 жыл бұрын
I get an injection mailed that needs to be refrigerated, but they pack it in frozen ice packs. It has never gotten cold enough to freeze the medication. There's many travel bags with zippered compartments to keep everything like medications and toiletries organized. The makeup aisle at Walmart or Target (or similar store) will have these. They make ones that are solid colors and don't look "girly". Very convenient for keeping a bunch of small things together and tidy. Happy travels!

How did they allow you to bring the ice pack when it’s larger than 3oz of gel/liquid?
@cee_el3 жыл бұрын
I checked on tsa and it says TSA allows larger amounts of medically necessary liquids, gels, and aerosols in reasonable quantities for your trip, but you must declare them to TSA officers at the checkpoint for inspection. Remove them from your carry-on bag to be screened separately from the rest of your belongings. You are not required to place your liquid medication in a plastic zip-top bag. If a liquid, gel, or aerosol declared as medically necessary alarms, then it may require additional screening and may not be allowed.
