I have been needing a fence for the band saw for some time now. The porter cable 14 in band saw does not come with one. So I decided to make my own and for less than $50.

Now THAT is a sweet idea for a basic band saw fence, and great article with tons of detail. I have a Harbor Freight BS I picked up at a yard sale for $20, and it needs a fence. With a new blade and an overall tune up I should be good to go. I noticed your challenges with drilling that steel tubing. I bought a pair of step bits ("Unibits" if you buy Klein tools) from HD or HF. They work wonders for drilling thinner metals without the grabbing, torque twisting and large burrs created with the typical twist drills. I use them in the field with cordless drills, as I don't have access to a drill press or clamps, etc. They are a great buy, and have three sets of them. They also work great for drilling or enlarging an existing hole in steel, Lexan and even Formica, especially in thinner sheet goods, like a light fixture, etc.

$34 all in for me without the wood. Works great and there is no reason a resaw attachment would not perform as well as any one could buy.

Build this today , but when I want to change the blade , the rail was to long , so I have to take apart and cut the rail shorter

What thickness was the board for the fence ??

Great idea. Question. Why the guide rails? Can you not just clamp to the sides of the bandsaw table?

Hey no you're not able to clamp it to the Porter-Cable band saw table. Mainly because the table has four ears that are lifted out on two tabs that are designed for fence rails. So the edges of the table are not flat so it would be impossible to clamp the fence to the table in certain locations and it not move the fence One Direction or the other
