I'm really enjoying the videos and getting a lot from all of your detailed explanations. Thanks. Sorry if this has been asked and answered: it looks like you often leave the excess glue that oozes out of joints to dry, and then you clean it up later with a sander. I've always used a wet rag to take that off right away when I'm doing glue up. When I leave it to dry on the joint, it ends up being hard, even harder than the wood, and sanding it off is a lot of work and it takes down too much of the nearby soft wood. It's also hard to get it all off for when I stain if I let it dry. Are you not having that problem? Keep up the good work.

Hey - huge fan of your page and builds. One question: how do you decide when to use a plywood core versus full depth boards/traditional joinery? Thanks!

Thanks for this video. I am planning on building something similar and I wasn't sure if the plywood core would work, but you've shown me that it works just fine. Do you have to add in the brad nails or could I just glue it down?

Jeff awesome! Glue will work if you can clamp it down to hold the birds down while the glue dries

Nice build. What type of wood is "barn wood", maple, oak, pine, redwood, etc? I'm wondering if I can make/simulate my own by leaving the wood outside for X weeks/months to weather it. I have a flat roof and live in CA. we have little rain, but plenty of fog and moisture, any thoughts on this? THanks

Thank you! Barnwood species depends on what the local species of wood is. Where I’m at the forests are mostly comprised of fir, spruce and pine and so that what they old timers built their barns with. By contracts on the east coast because there is oak and hemlock they would have used that to build their barns. Most of the wood I use has been outside and exposed to the elements for around 100 years so unfortunately just leaving new wood outside for a few days or weeks won’t do the trick. Having said that you can use a combination of wire brushes, sanders, reactive stains and other tools to add character marks 👍

Man, I'm an idiot. I should have put barnwood into the KZfaq search engine. Ironically your page came up in the "should watch" banner. I harvested several pine 2×4's and 6's. I had this brilliant idea and ZERO BUDGET too really speak of. I have all the basic tools. I've built homes cabinets and different odds and ends forever. I doing so improvisation is my strong hold. I have A thousand questions and they're slowly as I watch being answered. I may do A few videos because I've really had some good fortune in this venture. One thing, I didn't realize you could market "barnwood" and still use materials not 100% reclaimed barn and old warehouse lumber. I see now there no strict code. Anyway, thanks A million, peace,
