Now with subtitles!
This is a video of me buiding an office / camper van in 20 days! I decided to rebuild a used Volkswagen Caddy Maxi which I found on Blocket (Craigslist) to travel around with in Europe together with my new invention www.dotons.com
I did not know anything about cars or how to build a room with good temperature, air, electricity, and water. What I knew about myself was that I enjoy asking people about things I dont know, and my experience is that people often enjoy to share their knowledge.
So I went out to companies to ask about insulation, ventilation and got useful information. It cost me about €2000 to rebuild the car (fridge, 200w solarpanel and battery included).
Today I am travelling around in Europe. If you want to see more of this you are welcome to visit www.dotons.com
I also want to say Thanks
to all nice helping people at:

I really loved it! Especially because you went the extra mile to make it safe and comfy. I love how you insulated it and secured everything and made sure there was no nooks or cracks that could be open or showing. Also I like that you showed it on a smaller vehicle. Thank you for this video! Hope to see more.

What's the rush through the video for? Much is lost of showing off all your hard work and effort. If the video length at normal speed was a concern, you could have broken it into parts. I was able to get all the way through the video by muting the sound and hitting pause every few seconds as that was the only way I could enjoy it. After all your meticulous planning and effort on this build, it's a shame the video didn't receive as much attention. Please share a normal speed video if you have one as it would help those who are looking for useful ideas that they can then use on their own build. Be assured, this is only constructive criticism, and not hate. Thanks!

I hear what you say! But it was important for me to start travelling with the car as soon as it was ready, to try it and get back to make changes, so I made a simple video by speeding it up! Now when I understand that you are interested in more details I sure can give the video editing more time, to explain and show step by step, how I did. I have it all recorded with my voice explaining it! Just have to get back from this trip, so the next video will come out in the end of July! Thank you for your feedback!

Great job on that build! Maybe that sounds claustrophobic, but I would never restrict myself on that rear entry only and have at least added a big enough trapdoor that opens to the the drivercompartment to have access to it from the inside too. If someone backs you up closely to play mean tricks on you, you´ll be trapped in there. That could even happend unintended while sitting in a parking lot.

Right now Im out travelling with the car in Sweden and Norway, to get a feeling of what I might need to add and change. When I get back in the middle of July I will start building space saving systems and go more into details. So if you want to I can make another video! Thanks for your interest in this project mensgoodies!

My Father built his own Camper Van Mobile Home. It took him 8 years. he made the chassis from Box Steel, Welded and Galvanised. That took aprox 1 year and another year to choose a V4 Engine Transmission and brakes. The rest was bodywork, plumbing, heating and of course lights etc. Finally an Engineers report to make it roadworthy and pass a MOT. By the time he finished he was too old to use it and it was sold. Maybe he should have converted a van instead. Good convertion. George in the UK

@dotons
@dotons 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Carolyn! Glad to hear! I choosed not to leave it open for many reasons. I tried to make it as good insulated as possible, all windows in the front will make the cab area really hot, so I tried my best to keep that heat away from the living area. Another reason is if I carry expensive things I want to feel that they are safe, so as +happyfunjenn says, for "stealth mode". I also wanted two rooms, If I carry something wet and dont want the moisture inside the room where I live (I swim a lot, so it's perfect to let everything dry in the cab!) This will also give you peace at night even if sleeping in the most crowded city! It makes it so quiet! Hope this will help you! /N
