I'm guessing most people are here because they searched DIY coffins, or something similar. Simple but beautifully done.

My grandfather owned several businesses, one of which was a sawmill. My mom was a depression era child and she remembers her father building coffins for people in their community who could not afford one from a traditional funeral home. My grandmother would make the lining for the interior of the coffin.

They are great to sleep in in colder climates , you make them a bit bigger wider , and put vent holes in them , god I miss mine , very soundproof , best nights sleep ever , oh you make the side drop as well as the lid lift , wonderful job by the way ..

Dream project. Something built to last our life. Should be any truly Green voter's compulsory aspiration, a true legacy to make this world a better place that we leave behind. Always that perpetual challenge of keeping up with the Joneses. I hear the neighbour is planning to out do us with a cardboard coffin, even cheaper and even greener. Hope we can all live through that.

I got to help him with the apholstry & finishing details when i came home from one of my trucking runs. It was stained & polyurethaned & turned out very nicely. RIP Pops!!!

Thanks. I had some cedar cut and asked for 3/4 but I think it is not much more than a half inch thick. My mother-in-law asked me to build her casket and I was wondering if 1/2" to 5/8" would be to thin. I plan on adding panels anyway.
