How to Build a Cedar Window Planter Box | Easy DIY Project

5 жыл бұрынIn this video I show you how I build planter boxes or window boxes for the front of my house. I am building the planter boxes out of cedar wood and am using waterproof glue, nails and love to hold them together, but mostly glue and nails. I cover the inside of the window boxes with landscaping fabric and then fasten them to the front of the house. I wood look of the planter boxes is a really nice contrasting feature to my house. They were meant to be a Mother's Day gifts, but were a bit late - better late than never I suppose.

Hey Dave, those planter boxes look good ! Did I miss where you placed drain holes? Just wondering how the excess rain drains. Thanks for sharing with us.Keep up the great videos.

I did add drain holes. I must have forgotten to show that. Yeah, without that the roots would just rot and ruin the planter.

Beautiful. However, I wish you had given the size of the boards you bought, and then added the size of each board you cut down. And if you did add these and I missed it, I apologize! These are exactly what I've been looking at on another person's house. Wonder if I could use exterior cedar tongue and groove?

I see that these replaced planters you already had hanging. Do you have a video showing how you hung the original planters into your vinyl siding?

My biggest issue is what is the process of drilling through siding did you have to find actual studs through the wall of the house. May be a stupid issue I'm having I just really don't want to mess up the siding of my house but think this is a great idea and really want to do it

You definitely could. In fact, it would be much easier to do it that way. I did it the way I did because I was going for a specific look.

I find the basic 6in window planter boxes are ghetto,.. I started making 10x10x32 planters, the roots have more room to grow and the added soil protects the plants

Guys, when making items like this, get the measurement of the face panels FIRST, that way you can adjust the size of the frame to ensure you do not have to place a half or less piece of face panel to the end. By doing this, you will use full pieces from end to end. And for the most part, having a window planter 1 1/2" shorter will not change the final appearance when hung below the window.
