I really like the bed conversion. I've seen it slide out to be made wider but, not longer. That would even work for tent camping. I loved it. Great job.

This is awesome! I just saw one conversion that is done with individual boxes that latch together, so you can take them out easily to convert it back into a vehicle. I think I could achieve this setup with that.

Here's an idea for you...You should prepare camping kits to build campervans. For instance, building a kit just like this one for Peugeot Partners and offer some customization...but just the furniture (If I can call it that way) and the wires/cables and relays...ready to "plug and camp" ;) I would order one for my Mercedes Vito 112.

Some very good ideas Luke. With the one I want to build I may install a door on one side as the van I want to use(its out of three and I haven't decided yet) never had as a option when they were built if that makes sense? If I did this, I may be able to fit a rock and roll bed or a bed out of a Chevy Astro van. This would mean I could have everything on one side like in some conversions done in vans such as a VW T4 or a JDM import! I'm still looking at other ideas though.

@LuisGonzalez-gb4uh
@LuisGonzalez-gb4uh 8 жыл бұрын
A few suggestions: 1) since it's only for one person, why don't you remove the companion's seat? That would give you more valuable space for the bed, all along the right side. 2) Do you really need a kitchen? It takes half of the space. if you really do, can't you make a removable (so you can use it outside?). 3) What if you hang cabinets to the top, leaving the floor free? 4) Don't you think a compost toilet (hidden under the bed) would be much useful than a kitchen? Sorry to insist, I would use a micro camper as a transportable dorm, not a mini home.
@sh0
@sh0 8 жыл бұрын
All good points.. Despite not being OP, I'll answer as I've been researching a similar conversion in my Honda Element 1) Removal of the front seats compromises the resellability and flexibility of the vehicle, not to mention the front seats are also often hooked up to airbags and other electrical systems like heaters etc. It's much more work to remove one versus the rear set 2/4) Most of these sorts of setups are designed as a stealth camper where no outside setups are needed to live. It's much easier to find a place to use a bathroom than to find a public kitchen.. Although some sort of emergency toilet would definitely be a good inclusion, albeit as a last resort 3) Hanging cabinets requires altering the structural integrity of the frame.. Embracing gravity is much cheaper and safer than trying to fight it.. Also cabinets hanging from the roof would get in the way of the windows, reducing the stealth appeal of the vehicle not to mention impeding visibility while driving
@TheDiner50

Removing all passenger seat is not a option as far as I can tell (at least in Sweden/UK) At that point your "car" turns into a tool like a "tractor" and not a vehicle on the road sadly. ;/ Good for mopeds/motorcycles this is a thing. You need atleast 1 passenger seat and if you drive around without one you run into the risk of "bad cops bad cops, what are you going to do when they come for you?" XD PS: I know the comment is 1year old
@team3383
@team3383 7 жыл бұрын
I've turned my people carrier into a "stealth" camper. As Luis Gonzalez says. Why this need to build heavy units instead of simply using stow away ones ? The only build I have in the car is the bed frame. Much like this one. So double bed in back. The rest is portable: 20L Water with 12V pump for shower and kitchen. Portable alcohol stove (I also have an old gas one). Compost toilet, corn based biodegradable bags and a plastic bin with compartments for sorting any rubbish. Kitchen ustensils and everything else stows away into a wooden box in the boot. Done. Within minutes the people carrier is a people carrier again.
@team3383
@team3383 7 жыл бұрын
Using hanging cabinets is a huge gain of space. Simply make them safe... In driving a Honda Element, people carrier or small van, I would hope your all round awareness would be sufficient to overcome the loss of visibility. It certainly hasn't hindered thousands of white van drivers worldwide. Removing seats only means u have to put them back when you sell...! (Unplug battery for removal if you have Airbags or ask your local mechanic to help you/do it for you) People have been hiking for hundreds of years and can fit gas heaters and portable kitchens into ruck sacks. The kitchen in my people carrier fits into a wooden box 60 x 45 x 45cm - no smells. Corn based biodegradable bags and a plastic bin make for a very useable and responsible "emergency" toilet. They don't smell but should be disposed of appropriately. For weeing, an empty PET water bottle - Even for women ! You just have to make the best use of public facilities when they are available. Also: When curtains are pulled in a car it is pretty obvious that the car is being used to sleep in, thus losing its "stealth" etiquette so whether it has hanging storage units or not doesn't change the problem.... Look into many more before comitting and don't be afraid to change as and when necessary. Many people have managed to reduce their "camping needs" into very few portable items. Remember: A car is a luxury that hundreds of homeless people do not have, and they seem to manage carrying their world around in a large bag...

Wonderful! I have been oscillating between a slightly used Class B Sprinter or building customized to get what I want. I just cannot justify spending $50K+ - so I have been looking for the right vehicle to do exactly what you show (most important for me is a reliable, fuel efficient, inconspicuous vehicle that I can put many miles on - minimize fuel and lodging costs and spent non-sleeping time out and about)
@lukenicol
@lukenicol 8 жыл бұрын
+DavidisDawei thanks, this is my second build and my skills are slowly improving. My plan next is to try and make a much larger one, maybe based on an iveco Daily or similar. Would be even better if I didn't need roof racks and could store my hanglider in the van, maybe store it under a long bench seat, not sure yet. Here's a link to my first van, a lot more basic but some simple ideas...kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ar6XormBltHYiWQ.html
@DavidisDawei
@DavidisDawei 8 жыл бұрын
Luke Nicol Thanks Luke - I saw that video. I applaud your efforts! I subscribe to you under a different user name. The Sprinter is a beast (9-10' tall), these have various racks to mount on the roof and sides (and even below) - If you don't mind being conspicuous, it may be best to build out/customize a trailer, tow and drop - using a standard vehicle. In line with this, a truck and truck camper (in the bed of the truck) is probably the least expensive option, but again, it is not very stealthy.
@lukenicol
@lukenicol 8 жыл бұрын
+DavidisDawei for me my job requires me to be professional and turn up in a van but mainly i want good mpg. i do lots of miles driving around the country and into Europe to the best flying sites so every mile per gallon counts. towing a trailer kills that and also the conventional motorhome with the bed that sticks out above the cab really ruins the mpg. my next van will be big enough to comfortably live in for a few weeks (and must have a shower) but also must get at least 30mpg, hopefully closer to 40.
@DavidisDawei
@DavidisDawei 8 жыл бұрын
Luke Nicol WOW! I would love to know how you can do that??!! I drove around the USA and Canada for 40 days and put 14,000 MILES on my Ford Focus Wagon. It was tight, but only had to pay for lodging 1 night (in Banff National Park Campground) and was able to get up to 40+MPG when driving 50MPH with a steady foot It would be incredible if you could do that with a vehicle that gave more space/amenities!
