@BroadswordWargaming
@BroadswordWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah, I was VERY tempted to go the snow route, it was actually the initial plan. I'm pretty happy with the finish though, the sand looks good and it has a dusty and dry feel. I also wanted to keep it relatively neutral as it'll be used for battle reports, ao anything too strong makes them a little less usable. 😀

I was tempted to give it a very thinned down black wash, but it added too much contrast. The grey areas have some white, khaki and brown on, just through a rattle can. I could dry brush it, and may fiddle with it over time. 😀

@athollmcnicoll256
@athollmcnicoll256 3 жыл бұрын
Well Oliver from my perspective, a post nuclear holocaust type area would not have greenery of any kind but instead dried brownish grey miniature foliage and ideally the buildings would be blackened to a degree due to heat transfer . But maybe this is going overboard and you want to keep things relatively simple?
@BroadswordWargaming
@BroadswordWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I was referring to the feel of the board, more so than the features. 😀 In reality, it has a really dusty desaturated look to it.. but i understand what you're saying. Thats why I covered all of the green up, the soil and grass didn't really fit the theme.

Nice, but I think you should have streatched the sand part a little more toward the inside of the board. I would have blended it together a little better as would have some rubbles in the sandy area. Do not misunderstand me, it is a great board, but it would have made it better and less monochrome. I love the "orchard" area, a very nice touch.

@simonknibbs5867
@simonknibbs5867 3 жыл бұрын
The part that I struggle with is creating modular re-configurable terrain. This style does look better than typical scatter terrain, but it is static. I think the happy medium is to be able to change the upper-levels of the buildings in some way. Either way, this does look good and should have enough terrain for some games. One thing that I think would be worth considering for this build is where you see in some post-apocalyptic artwork the world reclaiming abandoned cities. You could add in a few places things like vines growing up the side of a few buildings. it will enable you to break up the grey colour in a few places as well.
@BroadswordWargaming
@BroadswordWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
It's always a toss up between replayability and looks isn't it. I will do a more agnostic style board at some point, with based terrain. I dont play many games and do enjoy the board builds, so thought bugger it, let's make it look like an old wasteland. Lots of details can be added on for flavour, like you say.😀

Looks great! How are you playing the terrain in 9th? There seems to be enough to be obscuring ruins, but where does the area terrain start? I'm curious because 9th terrain ruleset seems to be very tournament friendly, but doesn't really work well with this kind of supercool custom terrain.
@BroadswordWargaming
@BroadswordWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the new rules are really good for tournaments, can't wait to play some! I've had a few games on this now and its working alright. Using the rubble as -2 movement while the building are breachable, -1 to hit if you're in them and +1 attack/+1 to hit with overwatch. Seems to be pretty fair so far, you just have to pick a mission where the objectives fit.. That's something I'll have to consider for the next one. 😃
